Re: Hand Canceled?
I can tell you cause I just did this last week. The first 50 are free. After that it's .05 cents an envelope. What I did was bring them in smaller batches over 3 days, then I didn't have to worry about it.
ETA: Or you can just bring them to different p.o.s on the same day.

Thank you very much that makes me feel so much better...my mom freaked me out and said she thought it was like $0.75 per envelope which would have ended up costing alot.

When I brought mine in, there was no charge. They did not ask the amt of envelopes there were, they just took them all from me and did it themselves.

Really? We hand cancelled ours all at once and didn't get charged for it. Or do you mean if you have the p.o. do it for you?? We hand cancelled all of ours ourselves....

We did it in the city, I'm thinking since it's always busy we didn't even get the option to do it ourselves, which is fine. I couldn't bring more than 50 with me on the train at a time anyway, so it worked out fine.

It's when they hand stamp the origin and date on the envelope rather than it running through the machine and getting bar coded. It's totally not necessary, just a nice touch. If you do have any embellishments like bows or crystals or clasps on your invite I would recommend doing it though.
Keep in mind the invites will still run through a sorting machine, they have to be at some point, but that machine doesn't stamp them, it's just spits it out into a particular bin depending on where it's going....so it's not as harsh on the envelope.

well when you bring the invitations to the post office, instead of them putting it through the machine to put that red squiggly line stamp on it, they have a rubber stamp you use on the envelopes...It looks different too. Its a dark purple color and is round and all info is in the inside

I'm thinking that maybe since I had it done in the city and they're just bigger and busier there...not your neighborhood post office like??? Either way it wasn't a big deal since I happened to bring them in each day in groups of less than 50 since it was all I could carry.

yeah many of them let you go to the side and do it yourself but maybe they don't allow that there. And yeah the price you were charged isn't bad

Re: Hand Canceled?
When I went to get mine done in Deer Park, there was no charge, HOWEVER, she had me go to the side and do it myself.....no big deal...I was actually happier to do it myself and have it come out nice and straight and it only took 5 minutes, not even.
