Hand canceling?

Hand canceling?

I live in Indiana and we went to get our invitations weighed today to see how much the postage is going to cost. I asked about hand canceling and they said that costs 20 cents more for each envelope, is this correct?

I haven't heard that before.

Can you ask if they would still charge if you did the hand cancelling yourself?

Personally, I wish I had done it myself. The stupid woman at the post office said she would hand cancel my invites and she didn't. They looked like crap!

I have heard of this, but I do not think most post offices charge for this. I did not pay a fee for this, but we did hand cancel our invitations ourselves (although, I still do not think there would have been a charge). I would try another post office. Also, keep in mind, which we were told, of course, after the fact, that even though your invitations are hand cancelled, they still go through a machine.

They should not charge you! I had the invites for my e-party hand stamped and the guy did it right in front of me!! Talk about service!

There shouldnt be a charge... The only 20 cent charge is if it is non-machinable... meaning there is like some kind of bump or something that makes it uneven and may get stuck within the machine...

it just means that someone at the post office physically puts a stamp over your stamps on your invites so that the stamps cannot be used again... normally a machine does this but some girls dont want their invites going through a machine and having black marks all over them... i saw mine after they were mailed and the only mark on them was a red circular stamp over the corner of the stamp on my invites....

How do you hand cancel stamps yourself?

Also-- my envelope fit through the sample slot they had at the post office but the woman said they may add a 'cardboard surcharge ' of the .20 cents anyway, she also said they may not.

I guess I should just be safe rather than sorry and suck up the extra postage?

there is a rubber stamp they use to cancel them... some places will just give it to you to do yourself...
