Hand cancelling is when the cancellation stamp is put on the envelope by a person rather than a machine

it's totally NOT required, so don't go crazy trying to find a post office that will do that

There are many times also that they are HAND CANCELED & then once invites get to the plant they still send thru the machine. I hate to say it...but it's true.
The only one's they won't do that to if there is some special thing on back that is pertruding or the card/envelope is very thick/hard.
EX- If you make them yourself from the invites they sell at Michaels (thin in a pack by Wilton). They may be sent thru the machine. One never knows.

Since I work for the post office I just want to be honest. The Clerks at any post office can't gurantee because they don't know what will happen at the plant.

i did it and it was super easy and quick....they gave me the stamp to do myself and i went off to the side of the line, stamped them, handed them back and that was that....just saves them from getting run throug machines

My invites are almost ready to go... sending them out next week! But I am not hand cancelling them. IMO, they are going to get somewhat damaged enroute anyways

I'm sending mine out today and when I went to the PO the other day to buy the postage, the PO worker told me that he'd personally Hand Cancel mine with no problem. He was SUPER nice and took his time with me.
This was the PO in Jericho by the way lol
