Hand cancelling STD's?

Hand cancelling STD's?

Did anyone hand- cancel their STD's? Is hand-cancelling suppose to better protect the content in the envelope?

Or should I just stick a stamp and call it a day!

Did it require only one stamp? My STD is about 3x4...I'm going to ask when I go tomorrow, my luck they'll charge me a lot more!!!

I hand cancelled both my STDs and my invites! In theory it protects the contents as well as the envelops from being damaged during processing. I actually commisioned my dad to be my hand canceller hahaaaa! They looked really beautiful - it makes a very special piece of mail look and feel that much more special!

PS - We required a lot of postage on our invites...I forget the exact amount. Amount of postage and handcancelling don't have anything to do with each other.

I had them hand cancelled because I had little rhinestones on them but if not for that I wouldn't have!

I also just put stamps on and dropped them at the post office.

Mine were magnets and I had this nightmare of all of my STDs sticking to the inside of a mailbox and never getting mailed! So FH brought them to the post office. I have to say, for just stamping and mailing, they were delivered in really good condition.

Re: Hand cancelling STD's?

This is my second wedding. For my first one, many moons ago (1997) I had my invites hand cancelled. We brought them to the post office with a box on Dunkin' Donuts and (shocker) they were more than happy to accomodate me!

What is hand-cancelling? I have NO idea what this is? What does it do to the letter/envelope? Should we do this for wedding invites?

Re: Hand cancelling STD's?

Yes! It not computer printed, its a dated hand stamp that the post office uses to cancel stamps, you can only get it if you stand online w/ all your envelopes and have them do it right there
