Hand Cancelling.....I am APPALLED!

Hand Cancelling.....I am APPALLED!

So I wanted to hand cancel my sisters bridal shower invitations....they were hand made and have bows and rhinestones. Ok so no big deal right?

I go to the post office in Bryant Park and this is what happens....

There is a lady standing there helping people.
Me: 'Hi, I wanted to see if I could use the hand cancelling stamp'
Her: 'Why on earth would I give you the hand cancelling stamp'
Me: 'I have 62 invitations I have to mail and I would like to hand cancel them'
Her 'Ok well you can take your 62 invitations and stand in line over there'
Me: 'Why...cant I just use it and do it myself???'
Her: 'No, you have to pay $.05 cents per envelope to hand cancel'
Me: 'Thats alittle ridiculous...last time they gave me the stamp and I did it and it was free'
Her: Just stared at me
Me: Didnt know what to say
Her: Kept staring at me
Me: Go wait on line for 10 minutes. I counted how many people in line....20 people....decided not to wait and send as it!

WOW...I am just so angry right now. Last time I went to a smaller post office in NJ and they let me do it myself! This time....no siree. I dont mind paying the $3.00 but this lady was rude and the line was out of control! Ughhhh! I hope they are ok!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the invites are ok, its not right for someone to be rude.

she was just nasty!! some people just hate their job & take that attitude to work with them. why the heck would the P.O. charge extra to stamp envelopes...makes no sense.

call the local post master and complain, especially if you did it before, they are very good on policy...

They gave me a hard time about hand cancelling and I ended up just sending them out fo frustration. They made it there ok.

Yeah, in the city they charge 5 cents per. It's just the way it is. I did mine at Church St and same thing, but I called ahead and they told me to go to some special line on the side, next to the passport window, not to go on the regular line so I knew in advance where to go, but yeah they charge in the city.

I have heard few and far between stories about some in the city not charging, but that was rare.

That woman is a B!tch -but most peps in government jobs I find are all rude. It is a criteria.

One post office told me they would hand cancel 50 of my invitations for free and every additional after 50 would be $.05cents per envelope.

BTW its against the rules to let you hand cancel yourself...so whomever let you do it yourself before (was being nice)
