I'm just about to mail out my invitations by the end of the week. I remember someone mentioned about hand canceling the envelopes. Can someone please explain what this exactly means?

Re: Hand Canecling envelopes
You go to the post office with your stamped invites, and ask them if you can hand cancel them, instead of having them run through the machine..where they will get the big black line across them with the postage date.
Hand canceling means you will just take the stamp, and it will be a nice neat ink stamp next to the regular stamp. Sometimes if you get a nice postal worker (oxymoron) they'll do it for you!
jen...I know for a fact that north wantagh and hicksville will give you no problems hand cancelling...
how excited are you that the invites are going out?

Re: Hand Canecling envelopes
I mailed mine out this past Saturday. I was a little dissapointed because I thought I was actually going to hand stamp them. The postman, was like hand over the box Miss! I told him I would like to do it and he asked me if I would like a job, because it was their job and only they could do it. I had to laugh. It took me a minute to hand over the box.
Anyway to make a long story short, I mailed my sisters and my parents to my house and they did what they told me and it looked marvelous!
