I just read a past post about this. Does anyone know if this is a religious thing? I am having a jewish ceremony - not so religious though. I am not sure if I can incorporate this b/c I think I like it but I don't want to offend my more religious relatives. TIA

I am doing a catholic ceremony and we are doing it because our ceremony will be outside and we do not want to do the unity candle.

Re: Hand Ceremony
Hi I love the Hand Ceremony...I wonder if they will do it in the Catholic Church?
For anyone who has no clue what a hand ceremony is: something like this!
The Hand Ceremony
Bride-, please face -Groom- and hold his hands, palms up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy. These are the hands that will comfort you in illness and hold you when fear or grief fills you. These are the hands that will give you support and celebrate with you in your accomplishments.
-Groom-, please hold -Bride- hands, palms up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times. They are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick or console you when you are grieving. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the year, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will give you support as she encourages you to fulfill your dreams. Our prayer for you today is that both of you will use these hands to build a marriage where all your dreams come true.

Re: Hand Ceremony
It doesn't have to be religious. This is what we did (Carl was the officiant's name):
HAND CEREMONY
[CARL] With our hands, we make and affect the things that surround us and shape our lives. They can be considered a representation of who we are through what we choose to do. In any relationship, our actions speak volumes. Words are not enough to bind two people together. Their actions and, thus, their hands, bind them together as well.
Diana, please face Robert and hold his hands, palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you.
These hands you hold on your wedding day are the hands of your best friend, tender and sincere with love.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh and cry, and as you share you innermost secrets and dreams.
These are the hands that will wipe the tears of sorrow, laughter and joy from your eyes.
These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you when you are grieving.
These are the hands that will love and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness, as he promises his love and commitment to you, all the days of his life.
[CARL] Robert, please face Diana and hold her hands, palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you.
These hands you hold on your wedding day are the hands of your best friend, tender and sincere with love.
These are the hands that will give you support as you both chase your dreams. Together as a team, everything you wish for can be realized.
These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times and cherish the joyous times.
These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick and console you when you are grieving.
These are the hands that will love and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness, as she promises her love and commitment to you, all the days of her life.
[CARL] Please join hands. May the spirit of love and life bless these hands. May they always be held by one another. Give them the strength to hold on during difficult times, and keep them tender and gentle as nurture each other in Diana and Robert’s love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship rich in caring and devotion.

Re: Hand Ceremony
we did the hand ceremony- we had an interfaith non-denominational wedding so we could really do anything we wanted. The hand ceremony is not religious at all.

How are you having a Catholic ceremony that is outside??? Are you not having a priest? The catholic church doesn't allow weddings outdoors!
