What are your opinions gals? I want to handwrite and my writing is decent, but I think most people either hire a calligrapher or print labels via printer.

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I printed on clear labels with monogram font...looked good...but that's because i didnt have time to hire a caligrapher....OH YEAH.....this is better idea...if you have laser printer.....you can print the address directly on the envelope...I tried it ...it was nice but I couldnt get the address to come out where I wanted it to...and I ran out of time......But let me tell.....it looked soo much better than printing it on labels....and cheaper than caligrapher

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I thought about doing the calligraphy myself, because I'm actually pretty good at it, but I knew i'd drive myself insane. And it kills me to spend money on something that people are throwing out, so I just did them on my computer in Microsoft Word. I just went to Tools, Envelopes, and put in the measurements of my envelopes and used a pretty font. I have to say, they came out great and I got a lot of compliments on them.
The clear label thing is easy too, that's another good idea to avoid paying a calligrapher.

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
It all depends on what your taste is. Think about an invitation that you would get and what you would like to see on it. I definately think it will save money if you were to print directly onto the envelope, no one could probably tell the difference between that and a caligrapher!! IMO go with the directly onto the envelope or labels...either way you will have the addresses in your computer so when its time for Thank you's all you need to do is print out or label those envelopes too!!

I used clear labels. It was very easy, looked fine, and got the job done. I don't think it matters... do whatever's easiest for you.

I hired a calligrapher...IMO it's those extra little touches that make your wedding stand out!! And there's just something so weddingish and formal about it!

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I have great handwriting and get tons of complements when i do fancy stuff, but I decided that my sanity and time was worth more than handwritten envelopes. people lose the rsvp card, the actual invite etc... think of what happens to the envelope
best decision i ever made, they looked beautiful and it took like 20 minutes to print

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I bought a the font that was used on my invites, and used it to print on clear labels. I think they came out great, and it was so much less $$$ and effort for me than going with a calligrapher or printing on the envelopes themselves.

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
i did my STDs on a laser printer and loved how they came out, so will be using a more formal font for my invites. it doesn't take long to do them on the printer once you set the measurements for the envelopes.

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I printed mine right onto the envelopes with the printer. If your handwriting is good then do it. I had to handwrite a few of mine b/c of returns and my printer taking a shiit on me at the last minute.
Save the money and write them if you want

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I just hired Michele Clark for hand Calligraphy. Shes only a $1 per envelope and .25 per inner and she'll use colored ink for no extra charge!

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I had someone do my envelopes in the same font as the invites. They did the printing via computer. I just didn't have the time to do it myself.
I don't like the look of labels on a formal invitation. I did print out a few envelopes on my printer and they came out fine.
She was a pleasure to work with and her prices begin at $0.25 an outer envelope! I had her do my outer envelopes, response envelopes and placecards. Pics in review. HTH!

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I always think it's nicer to receive a hand-addressed envelope, whether it's hand calligraphy, or your own writing. To me, it says, 'I would like to personally invite you to share in this special occassion' not just 'yeah, you're #168 on my spreadsheet of names.'
Realistically speaking though, we are all busy, so if you don't have the time (or the $ to spend ) to hand write them, I think printing on the envelopes would be the next best thing. I really dislike the look of labels on a formal invitation--the few I've gotten all had smudged finger prints on them....which looked kinda gross to me.
I'm old fashioned, though, and still write letters to friends, not just emails....

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
I hired someone to do hand calligraphy. It was something that was important to me so I spent the extra money. A lot of people say 'oh it's just going to get thrown away' but I just love the formality of hand calligraphy.

Re: Handwritten addresses or printed?
My mom has beautiful handwriting and did our invitations for us. She experimented using several different pens until she found one that she liked AND was comfortable to use.
We had a tight timeframe and some difficulty getting the guest list together. I would have considered a calligrapher if we had had the time to spare.
My personal preference is handwritten addresses, but overall, I think whether it is handwritten or printed, the address should be done in a style that fits the rest of the invitation.
