Hardwood floors and cat litter?

Hardwood floors and cat litter?

In our new apartment, it's all hardwood floors and I'm noticing that there is cat litter EVERYWHERE. It's really gross. Does anyone else have this problem? What can I do? I've tried putting a little rug in front of the litter boxes, but it's not helping. We have the Litter Robot which also seems to toss litter everywhere so that might be part of the problem.

It's not the floors it's the cat litter. Make sure you get the clumping kind. THis will help.

we had this problem too... we got one of the litter boxes with the cover on it, and then this little plastic mat that goes in front of it, that when he walks out, the litter gets brushed out of his paws and stuck on this mat...

My Mom has a cat & has the same problem. She has tried every litter under the sun, the problem still cannot be fixed.
She has a box w/ the cover, a mat for the cat to step on before it touches the floor. She has tried lots of cleaning products, but things like the Swiffer (wet ones) only spread & smear the litter so the floors look even dirtier!
She's just constantly on top of it, using a dustbuster & sweeping, but it's a real PITA!
Hope someone has a great tip to share!
I hope you get this problem resolved as well!

I don't have the litter problem on the floor ever since switching to Fresh Step Clumping. It's more expensive, but worth it. Litter get's caught in their paws and I clean it out.

The mat didn't work, but you may want to try a carpet mat instead of a plastic one.

I think I'll have to try that. I'm not sure which litter we're using now. Part of the problem is the Litter Robot that we use - it rotates and sifts out the clumped litter but I think while it's rotating, some of the 'unused' litter is getting spilled out. I'd throw the thing away and get something else but it cost $300

Cool litter box...I was thiking of the litter maid but couldn't spend the $$.

I already spoil these kitties..

Now, if I could only get them to go only in the litter box!

You have to know that this was all DH's idea - he was in charge of cleaning the cat's litter boxes and decided that he needed something that would clean the box for him. Enter Litter Robot

I don't think there is any solution for that problem.

I switched to clumping litter, the Fresh Step. We bougth the litter mat that looks like astro turf. Those things helped lower the amount that gets around the apartment, but it didn't stop it completely. I just vacuum and sweep a lot.

I haven't figured out a way to fix this problem either. And the cat makes it worse, b/c she refuses to walk on the mat we bought to help. We have a box with a cover and she will launch herself out from the edge if she has to to avoid walking on the mat. but, I tried moving it away a little hoping she's accidentally hit it, but ohh, she's a smart one!
We use clumpng too - Arm & Hammer. I wondered if switching to a non-clumping would help, but I guess not.
