Has anyone ever heard of the harpist, Mia Theodoratus? She is charging only $300 for my cocktail hour. I haven't yet signed w/ her, but would like to know if any of you have heard of her, used her or any suggestions?
I still have to call a few more harpist tommorow and check their prices out? The cheaper the better.

just one comment on 'the cheaper the better'. not always and not with the harpist. if two people are pretty equal yes, the cheaper the better, absolutely. we saw someone who was 'cheap' but we were very nervous having them play at the church. you should be able to find people in the $175 - $275 range. there are people in the $500 range and while they are very talented these things add up. how long do they realistically play for at the church. i think $500 is way over priced in my opinion to play 20 min before, 10 min after and say 15 min during. definitely have to see each person and have them play for you. also ask for some songs you would like to hear them play specifically.

I am all about budget for most things. However, the difference between the 'budget' harpists and the true professionals was astounding. We are having an amazing harpist at both our cocktail hour and ceremony. She's charging a decent amount of money but if you listen to her clips and then the others, there is no comparison.
FM if you want more info.

Re: Harpist Mia Theodoratus?
Just saw you said c-tail hour (not church). That's a full 60 minutes (probably a little longer) with no breaks so $300 seems about right to me. It's great at the c-tail hour. Great background. I went to a c-tail hour that had a singer and I didn't like it at all. Everyone is trying to talk over the singer. I think instruments like harp, piano, classical guitar are great for the c-tail hour. And the harp physically looks beautiful - I think everyone will love it. Just my opinion but you have a little more flexibility because it's not like she's playing at the church where everyone is focused on her so if she makes a tiny mistake everyone notices (less likely to notice at c-tail hour once everyone is there). I think it's a great touch. good luck
Sorry so long. While I will not recommend any of these people since I have not used them feel free to check out the following: 1. www.harpist-miriamshilling.com (saw her at a showcase, seemed excellent) 2. newyorkharpist.com seems excellent also but very expensive 3. ensemblechamplain.com 4. capriccioensemble.com
