I have an appointment to visit Harrison House in Glen Cove. On paper I am in love with the place, but I''m a bit concerned about the minimum guarantee. I was told it''s 150 off peak and 175 peak!!
My question is...
How willing are banquet managers to lower the guarantee or is this one of those things that is NON-NEGOTIABLE?
I''ll probably fall short by about 20-30 guests and I''m hoping I won''t have to pay for people that won''t be there. At the same time, I don''t even WANT a party with 150 guests!!

Some advice
I can't speak for the Harrison House in particular, but in general catering halls will require you to pay for the minimum amount of people they quote you. If you don't meet the minimum they will throw in some more food perhaps to make up the difference to you, but you will still have to pay. You should look at places that cater for affairs for the amount of people you want to have. If you choose a non-peak month, you will probably find that some places are more willing to be flexible with the minimums.

Some advice - aim low
I didn't meet the minimum with my catering hall and they made us pay with no extras so aim low on the minimum but be sure the room can hold the amount of guests you could protentially be having.
Good luck.

Harrison House/Minimum Guarantee
Are you looking for a Saturday night? If not, then you could probably het a lower minimum. I was looking at a Friday night at the Harrison House and they told me the min. was 125.

Harrison House/Minimum Guarantee
I would've booked the Harrison House in a heartbeat if they would've been more flexible on their minimum guarantees. However, they weren't, so for our smaller sized wedding (100+), we found another place.
We initially were going for a Saturday night in May 2002. We were quoted a minimum of 175 guests at $130 pp. So we thought of switching it to an afternoon and we were told 125 minimum. We didn't think we could even guarantee that, so we told them, what if we could get 115. They told us we'd still be responsible to pay for the other 10, but they would throw in an extra hors devours or something. Didn't seem worth it, I mean 10 pp at $130 each gets to be expensive for an extra hors deveours tray being passed. So we passed, but we really didn't want to. We love the place!!
I know there are other brides on this board who have booked the Harrison House, so may be they could help you out more. Good Luck.

Harrison House/Minimum Guarantee
It was decided that if I absolutely LOVE and MUST HAVE this place, my fiance will pay for the extra people to make up for the minimum, he's set on Saturday night.
So, that's a relief, but I''m still blown away at how much it REALLY costs to have a wedding in NY/LI ! Isn''t the national average something like $15,000? I''m moving!! :)
