Harvest Gold BM dress dispute - you be the judge

After getting over the hurdle of finding a dress that suits BMs sizes from 4 to 18, I am now in a color quandry.

I am thinking of using 'Harvest Gold' as the color for the bridesmaid's dresses and I am afraid it might be a poor choice. I've heard 'it's too 80s to who's going to look good in that' from friends and the girls don't want to comment b/c they put me through hell with the styles and said it's my choice. Well, I am the only one who saw the color in person and found it to be surprisingly nice. My girls all have pale white skin, two are dark blondes and one has very dark brown/black hair.

I really am not so great with coordinating colors and think there might be a public stigma attached to this color - there are several nasty posts about this color on the web. I figured that asking you guys - the bridal public at large - would be a good way to figure out whether this dress is out there.

The wedding is in the evening in April. I don't want a very bright color not a wishy-washy one for these pale girls.

Anyone have experience or photos of Harvest Gold dresses in action? Or, alternatively, do you think Gold is elegant or out of style? Use the poll above.

This has been the hardest order to get finished! I really appreciate your opinion either way!

p.s.
I don't even want to think about what color vests the groomsmen will wear but I'll worry about that later

I wore a gold bridesmaid dress (by Nicole Miller) for my cousin's wedding ... it was stunning on EVERYONE - dark, light, tall, short ...

I wish I had a picture scanned ... it was so elegant with the groomsmen's tuxes.

She used gold/orange calla lillies as the bouquet ... so beautiful!

Honestly I would not make my friends (aka bridesmaids) wear a color they were not happy with. It has nothing to do with how nice the color is (it looks perfectly fine to me - not 80s) but it more about making your friends spend money and feel uncomfortable when they should be having fun.

My BMs wore Bronze and my MOH wore Gold and it looked BEAUTIFUL!!!

actually in my post friends is not aka bridesmaids. I was trying to say other friends apart from BMs made those comments and the bridemaids. So it's funny you brought that up. Well, beyond getting them a great deal on the dresses and giving the a lot of leeway with style selection, I'm trying to go with my own preference here. They do not have any strong objections (the BMs). I agree, being a bridezilla about it would not be nice.

I honestly have never seen gold/brown BMs before and want to know if there is a reason why...

The name Harvest Gold may sound dated but the color is really pretty. Start calling it something else and your friends, that are not even wearing the dress, won't even give it a second thought.

The 2 BMs were supposed to have the same color dresses but they came in different shades. I loved the way it looked!!

I actually really like that color! I say go with it if you like. But don't 'settle' on anything. Make sure you love it because you'll be looking at those pics for the rest of your life

Meladoridawn....That is actually one of the colors I am considering too! It is between that & raisin by Alfred Angelo...I don't think it is too 80's...My bridesmaids actually liked the color & thought it would look great in pictures

I have irish skin and honestly, that is not a good color on me- I look very washed out. That said, I think if you really love it and the BMs don't object, choose what you want. I don't think it is 'out' at all.

I think its a nice color but depending on the girl the lighting etc you could look washed out.

I don't think the color is 80's - I think it's nice.
But I don't think it will flatter anyone besides the girls w/ dark hair and/or skin. - I'm blonde w/ fair skin and gold completely washes me out. -
Does it come in something a little deeper ? Maybe that funky copper color ??

If you're set on the gold and YOU really love it - then do it. who cares what other people think of your BM dresses ? You have to love them !! (it would help of the BMs could tolerate wearing them, but that's just a bonus !!)

who is the designer of that dress? BTW I love the gold- classy and elegant- definitely needs to be played up with color in the flowers, not just ivory or white

I don't think its 80s. But, I don't like it for two reasons - I don't like how it photographs, and I think it is a 'wishy washy color' for your pale BMs, which you said you didn't want.

My FMIL is a bridal consultant and I had suggested that color and she did mention that it doesn't photo well.

Interesting...so the photo beware is true! See how difficult this it? I hope this discussion will help future brides considering gold as well.
