Re: has any one been to egypt
FILs went a few years ago, Spring 2001, I think. they did a tour, so they stayed 1 or 2 nights in a hotel in Cairo Ithink, teyn they did acruise down the Nile, so they stayed on the boat.
The tour provided armed guards.
I'm not sure how things have changed though.

I would love to go but I would never go now. Too much going on in that area right now. I dated an Egyptian man years ago and he always wanted to take me there, I should have went when I had the chance! FH & I are going to Africa for our honeymoon and it is so dissapointing not to be able to stop in Egypt. I just don't trust it now.

Tanzania - Flying into Arusha, going to the Western Serengeti then onto the Ngorongoro Crater then onto the Island of Zanzibar. CANNOT WAIT!

I kow someone that did a tour down the Nile too. She dind't have armed guards but she said you have to be careful about the drinking water - parasites. I think she drank bottled water when she could and boiled any tap water if she could too before drinking that.
And she didn't eat any fruits or salads there because she said it would have been (well maybe maybe not) washed in tap water. She said she ate alot of meat - well done, and breads.
Outside of that she said she had a fabu time.

I used to be a flight attendant and have been to Cairo. We stayed at the Intercontinental. It was before 9-11, but let me tell you, some of the girls had on shorts and they were whipped by men for showing their legs. I don't think travel agents ever tell you that! I wouldn't go with the state of affairs now a days.

Re: has any one been to egypt
I have been to Egypt. I stayed in Cairo for 5 days for business. I'm glad I was given the opportunity to visit, however, if I shelled out the money from my own pocket, I would have been very disappointed. I did not like Cairo. Although I stayed in a beautiful 5 star hotel, Cairo itself was filthy and the men there are very disrespectful to American women. The pyramids were great to see, but I expected them to be in the middle of the desert not across the street from a Burger King. Please keep in mind that I only went to Cairo. I have heard great things about other parts of Egypt, like Luxor. I really didn't feel that safe back in 2000 when I went. I think it would probably be worse now.

My best friend goes to egypt every few years and she was just there a few months ago. She didn't have any problems at all.

Personally, until this whole thing with Iraq is over, I would not be comfortable going to a Muslim Country. The ruins will always be there, but this tension won't. JMO.

I want to go to Egypt soooooo badly. Egypt and Turkey. But I wouldn't feel safe. I hope someday I do feel safe, because there is so much to see, so much history.
