Has anybody had any luck fighting with creditors?(M)
FH and I made a large payment to a credit card in January. They never received a payment. A phone call arrives in early March about the late payment. Mind you, no correspondence between Jan-March. I was baffled, and paid the bill over the phone in full, sans the finance charges. The woman over the phone said she would make note with payment and to not worry about it. Well, guess what! Tonight we get a phone call about this nonsense and it still is not settled. The lady was really nasty saying things like 'If you don't know how to pay your bill, then you shouldn't have a credit card' I mean ***!!!! Who is she? UGH What are we going to do? This battles seems endless and ongoing! Help!

they once made an error on my payment and I got the finance charges waived, you have to ask for a supervisor and demand they waive the finance charges

Did you pay by check in January? You can call your bank and ask them for a copy of the check to see if they cashed it and fax it to the credit card company. If this fails, ask to speak to a manager. I think they're the only ones that can cancel out finance charges.
Good Luck

definatly get a supervisor. get their name, the hours they work and find out who their boss is
keep up on it. be persistant.

Credit Cards
If the check was cashed... the obviously you have proof- like was suggested, request a copy of the check.
However- if the check was never cashed- then it's your fault for not realizing that the money never left your account.
Shame on them for screwing up the payment- but it you paid and the $$$ wasn't taken out of your account- then ultimately you are responsible.
The only think you could do is plead with a supervisor- give them your history of trying to pay twice and they SHOULD waive the finance charge. If they don't, tell them you will be closing your account and taking your business elsewhere.

First, check your bank statement to make sure that your payment is reflected on there. Then, I would call your bank to see what kind of support they have for your payment, such as canceled check, wire transfer confirmation, etc. Once you have that, call the credit card company. If they start to badger you, let them know you have the supporting documentation and ask them where you can send it, preferably by fax (you'll get the confirmation sheet).
Remember to get the name of every single person you speak with because you know you'll have to follow up with them and it gives you more credibility if you can reference the people you spoke with previously.
P.S. I hope you are not offended by the 'name' reminder. I say this because I remind DH of this all the time, but he never takes down any names. Personally, I think it is his conspiracy to get me to do all financial related things, despite the fact that he is a banker!!!!!
