I just got an invitation for an Engagement/House Warming Party. They got engaged and bought a house recently and decided to do one big celebration in their new home. Is this common? Is it a good idea? I've never been to a party like this before.

I've never heard of/been to one, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea. Good way to save money for thoes hosting and thoes attending (i would assume 1 gift counts for both)

yeah that's what she told me, we're close so I wanted to know her preference gift wise and she said she'll appreciate any gift they get.

Yea it does save money for the guests...and I'm sure it saves them/their parents the stress of planning/paying for two parties.

I've never heard of it, but its a good idea since it saves money for the couple- they only haev to throw one party and the guests who only have to buy one gift.

I always wanted to do it since what your really saving for is your future. Of course FH kinda wants a big wedding now. This is totally practica; and I love this idea. Makes their day really special.

i assume the party is at their home? i think they just called it that cuz they are super excited to have purchased a home and getting engaged. i would give them a gift card to loews if they still need work done/appliances. if not, i would get a gift card to bbb.
if the party is NOT at their home, def give money.

I've never heard of it either, but it's a good idea on their part. They don't have to throw more than one party so they can save money, and their friends won't get annoyed at having to buy them more than one present.

I think its a great idea... Most people who buy you an engagement gift and dont give you money buy you something for your house. So I think its perfect. Also catering in is not really less expensive. I know my Engagement party the food alone was 4000. Could have had it at a place for same price.
