Has anyone been to Atlantis???

Has anyone been to Atlantis???

I know I have posted about Atlantis before, but I am really, really worried about reading all of the bad reviews on some of the websites for it.

People are talking about how expensive the food and everything is. We have the meal plan, but I am wondering if people who are 'shocked' by the prices aren't from NY lol I know that a $5 hot dog is normal from where I am from (Shea Stadium). I mean, is it really that bad though?

I am also wondering if I take my own food, if anyone knows if the airlines will not let me take certain things in my luggage on the checked stuff. I would like to save some money, so if I packed some snacks and water and stuff like that maybe that will help save a bit.

THanks !

I went to the Atlantis when I was younger and remember thinking food was super expensive. I jsut went on their website now and you can see menus with prices. Their fine dining restaurants are absurdly priced. Apps all in the high teens and entrees all over $30+. I didn't get to check out the 'relaxed' restaurants but I imagine they're overpriced too if they're charging that much for fine dining. They have two NYC restaurants (Mesa Grill and Nobu) yet the prices are more at Atlantis. Look:

The food is quite pricey at Atlantis. If you wanted to bring snacks in your checked luggage, I don't see a problem with it, unless you are flying on an airline that charges for checked luggage, then it might not be worth it, depending on the baggage fee.

thank you both very much. I also appreciate the links. It is very expensive, but it's not going to kill me. I guess we can go there for ONE night out and splurge a little. :)

Thank you!

Re: Has anyone been to Atlantis???

I went to Atlantis in April 2007. I live and work in Manhattan and eat out pretty often with my fiance. I thought the food in Atlantis was really expensive, especially since the service was pretty bad in some places and the food quality was not as good as I would get for paying the same price or even less here in NYC. We did check out Mesa Grill which was one of the better places, and although I didn't love it bc I don't easy spicy food my fiance really enjoyed his meal there. There was also a buffet place at the Cove that we went to a couple times that had pretty good food but was more expensive than a typical buffet would be. One suggestion I didn't take that you might want to look into is dining outside of the Atlantis complex. I've heard there are some really great local restaurants, some even in walking distance or else a short cab ride, that have great food at better prices, and then you get to experience a little of the culture of the Bahamas, too! Hope this helps you!!!

Oh no, I didn't mean to scare you!!! Just be prepared for steep prices, but hey a honeymoon is a good time to splurge if there ever is one! ;) I also liked Nobu, which was also expensive but the food is really good so it's more worth it, at least in my opinion. The only restaurant we had a really bad experience at was a place where I had steak that was cold, the wine was ridiculously expensive and the waiter actually elbowed my fiance in the head accidentally, hahaha! I want to say it was the Bahamanian Club but I'm not 100% sure. That's the only place I would suggest skipping altogether if that was the one we ate it. Nobu and Mesa are definitely worth checking out if you want a 'fine dining' experience and like I said they're similarly priced to other restaurants with worse food. I think the place in the Cove that had the buffet was Mosaic, but whatever the buffet in the Cove was we ate there like 3, 4 or 5 times and it was yummy. Have a great time and don't worry, you only honeymoon once right!
