i'm not from the NY area, but i couldve sworn i read an article in CNN that they were taking down all of those signs in brooklyn because some people found them offensive.

That's not fair! I like the welcome to Bklyn and leaving Bklyn signs, though the only leaving I actually see if FUGEDDABOUTIT(or however you spell it)

Just did a search on CNN.com and Yahoo news, and I couldn't find anything to that affect. The Oy Vey sign only went up this week.

But my friend Michelle heard that people were having issues with it too. I don't get it at all. Every Jewish New Yorker I've spoken to (including myself) LOVES that sign. And the Fuhgeddaboudit sign has been up for months and I've heard nothing negative about that one.

ETD: The sign went up two weeks ago, my bad.

Sure, NOW that I finally leave Williamsburg they put up the sign and I'll never see it again because I'm never going back to Williamsburg. I live right near the Fuggedaboudit sign, it's cute.

I can't believe people are saying they're offensive. People REALLY do speak like that in Brooklyn!! I pass a car that has fuggedaboudit written on its back window every morning on my way to work!

Didn't see that one, but the Fuggeddaboutit is the one I always see. I think they're fun!

They're going to put up signs saying 'Now Leaving Brooklyn' anyway, they might as well be cute.

i agree but i still think it's kinda cute. puts a lil smile on my face. we can do w/o them, tho. it is costly.

maybe this is what i read:

'Signs of this can be seen in Markowitz’s failed attempt to put a sign reading, 'Leaving Brooklyn: Oy Vey!' over the Manhattan-bound lanes of the Williamsburg Bridge. The NYC Department of Transportation rejected the sign because it was 'distracting,' but it’s also likely that the sign was just too ethnic, confusing to the Caucasian crowds on holiday.
