As I have posted before, FH and I are having financial issues. The fact of the matter is that I am less enthusiastic about dumping any more money on a party right now because, while FH can come up w/ his share, I am not going to be able to put up my share of it. We have already started calling vendors to see what their policies are on cancelation/post-ponement. FH and I will definitely still be married in 2006, but I am not sure if the big party is going to happen anymore. I have been sad about this, but FH is trying to come up w/ some ideas. He thought about just having a ceremony and cocktail hour w/ no reception. Do people do that? Is it tacky? Are we better off just going to town hall, the 2 of us, get a license and let him see me in my dress in my house or something before I sell it? The fact of the matter is that, yeah, we can afford be married, it's the party that we can't do. I really doubt postponing it would be much help, as I am sure rates will increase...and when is a good time to part w/ that kind of money. Realisticly I can not even imagen a good time for the party to happen. I am angry and upset right now and I just want to scream. It's not that I am being a brat or anything...there is more to it than I probably should go into. I should have listened to FH when he said we should just save the money for our futures. Instead I insisted on this fantasy of mine that I would actually be able to be a bride.

Re: Has anyone ever done this?
What if you had your the reception at a knights of columbus or a VFW or in someone's big backyard even a restaurant & made it smaller. If you still want that wedding & don't want to spend alot of money I am sure you can do it, especially if you booked some vendors. I don't know which hall you booked but if it is in suffolk & you cancel more than 6 months before the wedding they must give you all but $100 back in nassau there is not a similar law but if you didn't put a big deposit then you may not lose alot. Also does the hall you booked have a smaller room that you could use & have a smaller reception. These are just some ideas--I don't know what your financial situation is but I just thought you could still get what you want without even being apart of the wedding industry. Good luck!!!

Sorry, but I am not letting you cancel your wedding. I know how much you want it, and I understand your financial situation. It will work out!!!! You did a great job finding all your vendors on a strict budget that you gave yourself. You will be fine!!!!!!!

A friend said that the best wedding she ever went to was a small ceremony in a park and an intimate dinner in the rooftop garden of an italian wedding, no dancing, but lots of eating, etc. There are definatley 'outside the box' ways of having a wedding....Good luck!

I would call the catering hall and speak to my BM. We pushed the wedding back a year and we were able to still keep '06 prices.

I actually know someone who is having a four hour affair. Half hour ceremony the rest will be cocktail only. There are ways to cut cost. Look into all your options before doing something drastic. good Luck

I wouldn't cancel. I have a friend that paid for his entire wedding and he made the money back. Up front it will seem like such a burden, but it will be ok in the end. I think you should still go thru with it.

You could have a cocktail reception, it may only be a little cheaper though. FI gave me the wedding book, Wonderful Weddings for Cost-Conscious Couples. You should check it out, there are some good ideas in there!
