I would like a band and my fiance wants a dj...we keep fighting about this. My cousin had a band at her reception for 3 hours and then had a dj for the rest of the night. Has anyone else done this before?

We will be having a band and a DJ. We met through mutual friends of ours who are ina band and we go to see them ALOT, so we definately wanted them to play for our wedidng, but then I panicked because they are a reggae / soca band and my family might not necessarily want to dance to that all night, so we have a DJ to vene things out, still have the slow dances, some motown and some other stuff, they are going to alternate by the hour I believe they both said that theyve done it many times and thats its common. So go for what you want, you BOTH wnat to be happy!!!

If my mother gets her act together we will have both. My family is Ecuadorean and the band would play the spanish music. The DJ would be there for the caribbean and other music we need. I have been to a wedding that had both and it worked out well. Each played one set and they alternated.

I went to a wedding with both and let me tell you it was fantastic!!!!
The band really added a flair to the wedding, while the DJ played those songs you just had to hear.
I say, if you can do both.

I went to a wedding in August that had both. The DJ played when the band took breaks and it was really great! There was something for everyone so there was alot of dancing and variety of sounds and music. I say do both if you can!

from what I have seen, a lot of DJ companies incorporate the band into their packages...maybe not a full 10 piece orchestra, but there are dj/band companies that do both!

I just came from a wedding this past weekend with FH. The couple had a Band as well as a DJ. Too me, it was nightmare...unless you book both band and DJ through the smae company, it's very difficult for them to get a flow. The guests start getting divided and one half wants the band and the other half wants the DJ. Neither could get their proper amount of time to play. They had perhaps 15 minute sets and that was just not enough time. Personally, I'd stick to one or the other. But in some cases, that's difficult when there are different nationalities involved and one cannot provide the proper music.

PS...my advice if going to go with both, is to get them through the same company. This way they are familar with working with oneanother and splitting the time.

We are having a band and dj - we booked the dj through the band and the band will be playing the majority of the time.
