The wedding i was in last night had a 'no shots policy' implemented so there were no shots. The wedding im in 2 weeks from tomorrow, same thing. I've never heard of this. Anyone else ever hear of this or know why? I was assuming maybe they dont want people getting out of control but then DH said people will get drunk regardless. Im not too sure

I have heard of it before, but really don't understand the reasoning behind it. I agree everyone is gonna get drunk regardless so why not allow shots. I just think it is weird

Yeah ALOT of RH's dont allow this. I know ive seen MANY MANY girls on here talking about how their RH's dont allow it. I agree with your DH, a person that plans to get drunk is not only going to get drunk off of shots, it makes no sense. They will get just as drunk off of other drinks.
Plus some bartenders will just put a shot in a regular glass. OR if somebody asks for a glass of vodka the bartender is going to give it to you, and you can just ask for them to put a little bit in there.

I work at a club and sometimes we cater corporate parties and we also have a no-shot policy. Working in a club its obvious when people do shots they get drunker faster and more belligerent. Maybe they know some people who get carried away with their liquor and are trying to prevent unnecessary drunken stupidity...Some people just dont know how to behave.

when i signed the contract at the thatched cottage there was a no shots policy as well. it's to prevent people from getting really drunk i guess. i didn't really care, i don't drink so i had no clue, i figured it was a common thing.

It can make it worse, one event there was a no shot policy. So everyone still wanted shots and there was a big group. So they were asking for grey goose in regular glasses and asking to fill it halfway and they were doing shots like that. So instead of doing 1 shot each time they were doing double shots each time. Needless to say they got pretty drunk haha.

hmm... i didn't even notice if my hall has a policy against this. I don't think they do, or maybe I won't be finding out until after i go down there to finalize the menu? Either way, i don't think i'm having a lot of heavy drinkers there, so shots or no wouldn't be an issue. But yeah, i never heard of that before. Interesting.

All the halls I looked at had a no shot policy. FH and I asked everywhere because its kind of a tradition to him but we were told it was a suffolk county law. How true that is I dont know.

Thanks ladies....i just thought it was strange. I was married almost three months ago and they were lining up shots on the bar 30-40 at a time (which made for some funny pics). I guess it's something new.

Haven't heard of it, but I agree with the PPs that it sounds illogical. People who want to get drunk will get drunk no matter what their beverage of choice is.

Most halls have a no shots policy....All the ones I worked at didnt allow shots either...Its because they feel they lose money on an open bar package, they feel you drink more if your doing shots and you cant short poor the customer. MANY also do it because they switch out the liquor in their bottles.. Like take an absolut bottle and put rack/crappy vodka in it to look like they are serving top shelf in order to make a bigger profit(which is illegal but done very often, its super popular to switch n serve stoli or absolut as grey goose!) ... and by having shots it is more likely they will get caught because people can tell the difference, its much easier to mask with a mixed drink. I personally think it is stupid considering you are paying all this money for an open bar, but I guess its all about the business making money, not the consumer getting what they paid for.
