like the ones in the molds - you melt the chocolate and pour it in forms
can you recommend a place in suffolk county that I can go to look for that kind of stuff?

I would love to make my own favors -but my mom keeps telling me its a bad idea because I'm going to be so busy a few weeks before the wedding. You guys think she is right?

There is a specialty shop in farmingdale (nassau/suffolk border) called the chocolate duck. They specialize in everything chocolate.
I was going to suggest the Chocolate Duck as well. It's in Farmingdale but VERY close to the suffolk border. HUGE selection!!

I think that making chocolate is a lot of work, but you can definately do it before the wedding. You can start in early September and leave them in a cool dry place. BUT, don't leave them in the freezer or the fridge because then when you take them out...they will not hold up in the drastic temp. change. Also, keep in mind that chocolate absorbs the taste and smells of things around it, so if anyone in your house smokes, you will definately taste it on the chocolate, and you should not leave the chocolate with other food products.

Re: has anyone ever made chocolate
I made all chocolate favors for my friends bridal shower 2 years ago. I am 99% positive this is the place I got all the chocolate (it's real chocolate, not the fake candy melts that they sell at Michael's or JoAnn's) and supplies from. They have a ton of different molds. They also sell premade stuff if you decide you don't want to do it yourself.
Chocolate By Design Inc Address: 700 Union Pkwy # 4, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779 Phone: (631) 737-0082
They were really reasonably priced too.

I was going to suggest this place as well-I just made chocolates for the first time ever last weekend for my dads surprise party-I made them last weekend and the party is this weekend-it was my first time making them and it went very well-its a bit time consuming but not difficult. As long as you keep them in the fridge or freezer I think you could do it a few weeks before the wedding

Re: has anyone ever made chocolate
I made chocolate E's (for my new last name) for the OOT bags. I started them in April for my July 9th wedding, as long as you keep them in a cool placce they should be fine. It was alot of work and a BIG mess. I agree with your mom with everythign else you have to do it is alot. it is the only extra thing i wish i didn't do b/c it was so much work.
