A butterfly release instead of throwing rose petals?
I'm 90% going to do this! lol My mom suggested it and said, 'What about a butterfly release?? Then they all fly to Mexico!' (That's where I was born).

I didn't know that either. When doves are released they fly back to the coup. All Butterfly's fly to Mexico for the winter.

the Monarch's will go to Mexico...not sure about others. That is the purpose f a Monarch's life...they're born, fly here and fly back to Mexico.
i've heard on here that not all the butterflies are alive when they shipped so i'd be wary of that.
other than that, the idea is awesome. i would love to see pics of this!

I love butterflies and would LOVE to do this. But My wedding date has been rainy the past few years. I just don´t what I would do with them if last minute we ended up doing the ceremony inside. So I don´t think I can do it

thats a great idea, that will be really unique. How will you release them? Will the vendor do it for you?

Alyssa, this is what i just heard...
'The purpose of a Monarch's life is to fly around at Adriana's wedding and then go to the homeland.'
j/k
My mom called and the people said they are shipped overnight frozen (hybernation), then we gotta warm them up that morning.
They said they can either have each individual guest release them or have several boxes that someone just needs to open. I'll go with the boxes and have the older kids do it.

I have seen this. Its amazing! However, some of the butterflies weren't... alive(like cacoons)... but the ones that were made the whole thing look so surreal. Its worth it esp for a photo. They came in a little box with small holes in it and they were so pretty. I heard it gets a little pricey though... btw, this was like 5 years ago...

I'm sorry to be the one to say that this is a really bad idea. It's really bad for the butterflies (Yeah, I'm a hippie, sue me!) and more often than not they don't even fly away. This isn't the article I was thinking of, but check it out:
