Has anyone ever thought about eloping or getting married on an island?
I'm just so sick over the cost of having a big wedding! I never really wanted a big wedding, I always thought that I would have an intimate setting with immediate family and close friends...now it's just getting out of hand!!! My Fiance and I are paying for the wedding on our own and we owe tons of money in student loans, I think it makes more sense to pay off some debt rather than have a big wedding. I'm tossing around the idea of getting married in St. Lucia with just my immediate family and close friends present. Has anyone ever thought of doing something like this????? HELP, I am so stressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wanted to get married on the beach in the carribean, that was my dream kind of, but we could never not invite all the people we are to our big wedding here, and now i wouldn't change a thing. i want all my friends and our families to see our special day, where if i marrid there, alot wouldn't be able to. but whatever your decision, you are marrying your true love so go for it!

I have seen people getting married while staying at some resorts-- it always is so beautiful-- If my FH would let me that's what I would do.

I was in your same boat! But my dream as well as our parents is to walk down the aisle of our church. FH's mom's family is from Aruba and we originally thought of having the wedding there. I went so far as to get info from their Visitors Bureau and there are associations that handle everything for you. From the flight to Aruba, pictures, resort, food, flowers, photographers. You name it everything. But the idea never went well with either set of parents. I still have the information if you want it. AND it came out to under $10,000!! That is about hmm a 1/4 of what we are paying for the wedding in LI. That is why we are holding off getting married till 2004. You can e-mail me at [email protected] for any information.

We thought that a small, private, romantic wedding on a Caribbean island would be perfect for us. Our families supported us, we started getting ideas together. On our first 'scouting' trip last summer, our flight out of NY was cancelled, rescheduled the next day, then delayed for hours. We realized then and there that a destination wedding would be too stressful for us. I still think that it's a fun idea; I'd love to be a guest at an island wedding, just couldn't handle the logistics of planning one for ourselves.

I thought of it but for some reason backed away. I'm less than 3 months from my wedding now and if I had it to do over again, I would go to an island and have the wedding. Because who ever is important to you will be there no matter where it is. Less money, less stress, more fun! I wanted to go to Ireland to get married and if I could cancel everything and not lose money, I would and I would go ahead with the Ireland plans. Good luck. Follow your heart, not what anyone else wants!!

No, but I just went to one!
I got back from my Bermuda cruise on Sat. My friend got married in St. Georges. It was awesome! About 25 people went on a cruise together (B&G included) and another 25 flew in. The reception was at a church on the island. No video, no photographer. We all brought cameras and clicked away and my friends father took his video camera along. The cruise was a huge expense, but her inlaws paid for it. If you want a small, intimate wedding, I would definitely recommend an island wedding. It was beautiful and a memory that everyone in attendance will never forget.
It rained for a few minutes on the day of the wedding, so when they posed for their formals after the ceremony there was a fairy tale, full rainbow behind them! I couldn't believe it. The pictures of it are incredible.

After pricing weddings on LI my FH and I are ready to hop a flight and get married on a beach somewhere. We decided to claim down and wait until after the engagement party to plan the wedding. We're not sure what we're gonna do yet.
