Re: has anyone ever tried...?
I did. I used the patch and I will be honest - IT WAS REALLY HARD! But if you make up your mind to do it - you can. I gained weight. I ate like a carrot stick a day and still gained - because my metabolism slowed down. I gained about 15 - 20 pounds over the course of about 5 months, but took it off on weight watchers during the following 5 months.
Withdrawal symptoms eased every day. They hung around the whole time I was on the patch (I think it was 3 mos) and lingered for a few months. Each week was better than the week before and after a year I only felt urges every so often (and still do but not a lot only when I am stresed!) I was a SERIOUS smoker though and loved it! I still consider myself a smoker who is just not smoking right now. Next week will be 2 years for me and I still CANNOT believe it.
If you really want to quit you can do it! Good luck to you and if you need ANY support I am here for you!!

Re: has anyone ever tried...?
I quit on January 15th. I am soooo happy that I did it. I used a program called Quit Smart and the patch. It worked well for me. It was only really bad for me the first 3 days and last week (don't ask). But with this program I was fine with going to bars and being around smokers.
I gained weight. I cannot tell you how much I know it was 8 pounds and then I got sick with hypothyroidism and that changed my metabolism too.
If you really want too you can. I LOVED smoking!! But not smoking on my wedding day and the desire to have children was enough for me!
I quit cold turkey after a very scary medical incident (I thought I was having a heart attack!)
That scared me enough to quit. MY FH is trying that herbal stuff, and he was doing really well until he went to work (he can smoke at his job) and then it went down the toilet!
It took me about 5 days to stop having withdrawls, but I have to tell you... sometimes I am smoking in my dreams!

Re: has anyone ever tried...?
I quit cold turkey because I just didn't want to smoke anymore.I got sick of being out of breath if I went out dancing. I just kept popping candy (tic tacs) when I would usually smoke a ciggerette. I didn't gain weight because I was always on the thin side. Now that I am a bit older, the weight goes on a little faster. Bottom line is I think you can only quit if you really want to. I am probably not the norm because I quit cold turkey and it wasn't hard for me.And I smoked for many years.Good luck!!!!

You can quit!
I also used Wellbutrin- I took it for only one month- not the recommend three- you continue to smoke the 1st week you are taking the pills.. when I reached day 5 I just didn't want to smoke anymore. I went smoke free for one year- for the 2 months before the wedding a would smoke here or there.. maybe like 10 smokes a month (not bad considering I smoked 1 pack a day). Now that the wedding is over I'm fine- every once in a while I get a craving (usually when I get really drunk)... but never, ever when I'm sober. I feel so much better and do not get bronchitis anymore... ( I used to get it 2xs a year).
