sites like orbitz and travelocity to book hotels. I have never done it before and I am a little nervous. Anything I should know before I book?

Of course! But priceline and hotwire are my favorites!!!! I've stayed at the Intercontinental in Athens Greece for $75 through priceline...it was amazing! And I've used Hotwire and paid $65 for a Hilton...the same exact hotel my sister was staying at for over double the price!

Done it several times...would do it again, but I will share with you just a few minor problems that we ran into..... (1) once a hotel in Europe was really gross and we left half an hour after we checked in. We couldn't get our money back from the hotel or expedia. Wrote letters, etc. No luck. When we booked it was one of those non-refundable rates. We knew that when we booked it, but they really stick to it, even if the hotel is misrepresented. (2) If you are trying to get an upgrade, etc. on your room, you can pretty much forget about it if you've booked through one of those websites. The hotels have rooms specifically dedicated for use by those sites and you can't switch rooms once you've booked it there.
That said, I've used those websites more than a dozen times and I'd still use them again. 98% of the time it's totally fine. Good luck!

i use all of them.
sidestep.com is a great one too bc it pulls all the sites together. it's always cheaper than it would be if you booked direct
