Has anyone every heard of a mortgage registry?

I found an article about it in the paper in January but with no further info. I looked and looked online but wiht no luck. Then about a month ago, I found an article about it in one of the bridal mags, which said to check with your local bank. We did and our bank said they didn't do it however a bigger more national bank probably would do it. I have only checked with Washington Mutual so far and they had no idea what I was talking about.

Has anyone else heard of or doing this????

Yes, I even have the number for you, but it's in my car. There's a whole section about it in TEH EVERYTHING WEDDING BOOK. Here's one of them...

What exactly is that? Is it set up for people to pay your mortgage? If so no offense but I don't like the idea. If people don't want to give gifts, they will give money. I think a lot of people have fun picking out stuff for the bride and groom from stores.

What exactly is it?

Oh My God! I love you!!!

can you give me the number when you can? Are you doing this? If so, how are you asking/wording it? Are you doing by word of mouth?

thanks again!

its a registry/bank account where your freinds and family can put money into to go towards a house- its in place of a gift registry.

i know not everyone likes the idea however FI and I have lived together for 4 years and don't need household gifts

It's offering an alternative to just givign cash or a blender off your registry from FOrtunoffs. Cash gets spent very quickly, this is towards your down payment.

I actually registered my honeymonn at

www.THEHONEYMOON.com

We live together now and have all brand new stuff. I registered for some stuff at FOrtunoffs and the balance towards my honeymoon excursions.

No offense, but many people - especially the older generation will find it very tacky. Asking for $ is not looked well upon, although many people will give it anyway.

www.thehoneymoon.com is a much better idea, it's asking for 'things' or honeymoon items like fresh flowers in your room.

And, no one has to know this, but they just send you a check at the end anyway, so you could use it in place of the mortgage registry with the same outcome and less annoyed people.

Admittedly, I do not know a lot about this.
However, my impression was that asking people to contribute in this way locks you in to using certain mortgage companies and I think they even charge a fee for this service.
It seemed strange to me.
i'm sure you will want to shop around for a mortgage company anyway and things change all the time.
I think it can also be interpreted as offensive. I know people may think it is the same as a regular registry but I'm not so sure.
If someone gives you a vase - you have something to specific. If someone gives you $200 towards your mortgage - there is no tangible gift.

If you have a small registry or no registry - you'll just get cash anyway which is preferably to locking it in I think.

Just my opinion and I really don't know much about this so I may be wrong about fees, etc
