Has any of you flown in a cessna before? I'm kinda nervous about it. I booking my flights in and out of hawaii and the only way to fly back to maui from the big island is to take a cessna out of the hilo airport. The other option is to drive almost 3 hours to kona airport and take a boeing aircraft. I have never been on a cessna before but I 'm a little nervous to try it. Should I be?

lol!! I know! oh man, I'm gonna be clutching my hubby the whole time!!! It beats having to fly all the way to honlolul to switch planes and fly back to maui.

They are a little scary, because you feel every little bump and wiggle and shimmy of the plane. But sometimes they are the only way to get to certain places. It's a very different experience than the regular planes, but I didn't feel unsafe.

I have gone skydiving three times and everytime I went up, we went in a Cessna 182. Personally, I was never afriad of it. The 182 only seats 4 to 6(usually mine was a 4 seater). If your not afraid of flying, you will be fine. The views from the plane are so beautiful because you typically don't go above 10,000 feet so you see everything!!!

My FH is a pilot and i have flown in a cessna numerous times and i have alway felt safe. Because it is a smaller plane you can feel the bumps easier and it can be quite noisey. So if you are scared of flying though i wouldn't recommend it.

I have flown in a cessna several time also. You do feel everything and you are sitting right there with the pilot. DH was scared the one time he was in one. But I love it.

What airline are you flying? We flew from Honolulu to Hilo in a regular (but small) plane. If you are scared, I would flu thru Honolulu.

I flew on a really small plane, not sure if it was a Cessna, but I also jumped out of it (skydiving). I was surprised by how not scary that plane ride seemed and we even had the door of the plane open the whole time. Then again, I did have my mind focusing on the fact that I was about to jump out of it. I say do the small plane, it will add some adventure to the trip!!

If you are nervous about flying, you should not take the Cessna. As the others said, you feel every bump and gust of wind. Usually they are very short flights so it doesn't bother me. It was really strange when they asked me how much I weigh - they wanted to make sure they balanced out all the weight on the plane for a smoother flight.

Not only have I flown IN a Cessna, I've actually FLOWN a Cessna! They are very small, loud and you feel every bump and breeze that comes across the plane. I agree that if you're a nervous flyer, this may not be the flight for you. They are a bit scarey, but just think of where you'll be when you get off.

A friend of mine flies them. Personally they are too small and have too many variables for my own comfort. I can barely handle the paddle hoppers.

Mostly because I *LIKE* to drive!
I mean how many other times will you have to drive around in Hawaii? For our Honeymoon there’s going to be a LOT of driving. We like to make random stops and take pictures. Our 6 hour drive back from Buffalo took us FOREVER because we stopped at scenic site stops and had a picnic and took photos. But that’s just us.

Go for the plane ride, we flew in one when we went to Aruba and it was a little scary at first but we ended up really enjoying it, it was adventrous.

Just updating with my final verdict
I did book the flight from hilo to kahului on pacific wings which are cessna aircraft. I am usually not nervous about flying in the larger planes or even the smaller commuter planes so I think I should be fine with the cessna. I was just nervous since I have not been on one before and there are always stories about those planes having problems.
I think I will be fine, thanks for the help!!

I gotta jump in here. I used to own a Cessna 172. Very safe. Actually safer than a jet!
