From what my understanding I think it is like an xray of the ovaries but I am not really sure that is why I was posing the question.

I did, and just to warn you, it's very uncomfortable, to me and my friend, it was painful.

An HSG is a Hysterosalpingogram. They inject dye into you to see if there is any blockage in your tubes or anywhere inside, and they take pics. This is how I found I had scar tissue on my uterus.

ETA: Make sure you take the tylenol or advil 2 hrs before, not that it helped much, but the cramping is awful!

Well, thanks for your honesty. My Dr. made it sound like it was just an X-Ray. I was thinking I could do this after work one day. How long did the cramping last? Worse than AF cramps? How long did you recuperate for? Did some one need to be there to bring you home afterwards? I am at a total loss here b/c I totally misunderstood the procedure. Thank You very much for your help!

I was just discussing this tonight with my friend who also had it done. Yes the cramping was much worse than AF cramps (to us anyway).

I left work early oneday to have it done.
It took about 30 minutes and I drove myself home. The cramps start during the test and lasted about an hour after.

No recuperation time. They inserted a catherer inside my cervix and shot the dye inside, the woman who did mine, coudn't get the tube to stay in correctly at first, which made it worse .

They inject the dye in intervals, and take pics then xrays. Please don't be worried, it may not affect you like it did me.

It's not THAT horrible, just very uncomfortable.
