Tara (peabody) just called me--she thought she was going in for Lasik surgery last week, but at the last minute they told her she wasn't a good candidate. She got PRK surgery instead, and has been having an awful recovery. She still can't see almost a week later, and is in a great deal of pain. She can't go to work because she can't see to drive.
She asked me to post and ask if anyone else had done the PRK and gone through this, and if so, how long it takes to see? They warned her it might take quite a while to see as it is apparently a gradual process...
Thanks!

Re: Has anyone had PRK instead of Lasik eye surgery?
I had a form of PRK called Lasak - same cut in the eye
I was in tremedous pain the first few days - took a prescription pain medication
My vision slowly got better for three months - had the surgery in June and had 20 15 by the end of August
I was down to 20 30 within a week and could drive fine - but it took that long to feel like i could drive
it is hard because i watched my brother drive the next day after having lasik
It is really important for her to use the rewetting drops without preservative lots- it helps speed the healing process and use the steroid drops that they give you the proper amount
tell her good luck - i know it sucks but worth it in the end
who did she use that told her that late- i was told right away i was not a candiate for lasik and made my decision based on not getting lasik

She went to Stahl. Not sure which dr. She did all the research about Lasik, but I don't think she imagined the PRK would be this bad. And it sounded like her FH may have lost the drops!

Your story sounds like my story. My sister has the Lasik and was seeing 20/20 that day.
I feel so much better reading this. You have no idea how SCARED AND UPSET I have been these past couple of days.
I hope this is worth it in the end.
I was so SICK from the stupid pain medication and I was in so much freaking pain. And my vision right now is still blurry. It has gotten a little better today and I HOPING each day it gets better.
Are you sure it is worth it? I am SO UPSET and SCARED that my eyesight will stay this way?
Was your close up vision blurry too? Mine closeup is blurry too and that is what really Scared me because my close up was fine?
I am going to FM you with more questions.

The rewetting drops you can get from any drugstore- just ask a pharmacist- they are single use eye drops - imprtant that there are no persavatives
I would also call your doctor and get a new perscription for any drops that you are missing - the perscription drops are important to help in healing and keep them from getting infected
