Has Anyone Had Second Thoughts About
a vendor you already booked. I booked a photojournalistic photog back in November and now I am wondering if I made the right choice. I def want photojournalsitic pics, but I am worried I won't get a lot of the traditional shots I want too. She already said she doesn't take 'must take' photo lists that she's a professional and will take all the great moment shots. I loooove her pj work but want traditional pics too. She does take some of those pics but not many. Any suggestions???

Re: Has Anyone Had Second Thoughts About
You might want to think about hiring a traditional photog as well. You will absolutely want a must-take list if there are certain combinations of people you want pics of (how is the photog supposed to know that you want a pic of certain family members in a posed way? they might not know who is important or what shots you need for family reasons). The in-the-moment shots are great and everyone should have them. But will she do regular posed portraits? Do you have any special pics you want for sentimental reasons? For example, I am a big shoe girl, and have more pics of my shoes laid out before getting dressed than I do of my dress, because I specifically asked for it. The photog will not know without some instruction.
Our photog actually handed us a suggested form of a must-take list. They wanted to know in advance which friends and family members we needed pics with and any other special requests. You are paying someone thousands of dollars to capture a very important day, and you really do need a bit of oversight.

Re: Has Anyone Had Second Thoughts About
Well I would say speak to her and let her know that you understand she doesnt take must take lists however you hope that she understands your desire for the style of photos you want. What is good is that , if you wanted certain candid shots, you wouldnt have control over which ones she took because they are just that, 'candid' but with traditional, since you will actually be posing for them, just make sure to pose for all the ones you want and ask her to keep shooting if she hasnt gotten all that you want yet.

I was thinking of doing this, but my contract says I cannot hire any other professional photog. She is to be the only professional photographer (which I'm sure is standard in most photog contracts as they would get in eachother's way).

Re: Has Anyone Had Second Thoughts About
I did and I switched photographers because of this.I just saw too many engagement shoots and weddings that made me worried about what my photos would look like. I didn't want to take this risk and lost my deposit. I am now VERY happy with my choice.
Do you really love the quality of your photogs work? If so then keep them but perhaps have a sit down about how important posed photos are to you or if they would recommend a 2nd traditional photographer to achieve what you want.
It's your wedding and your vision. Vendors should accommodate you.

She does do some posed shots (bridal party, Bride and Groom, family, etc., but that's about it). Originally I really only wanted photojournalstic shots (and I still do) but now I want some more traditional shots. I was thinking of seeing If I can amend the Contract with her and have her show up for cocktail hour and reception only and then hire a traditional photog to do the bridal prep, ceremony and family shots. I'm not too sure she will go for that. She's a little controlling and after all I do have a signed contract with her. So I feel stuck.

Whoa! You are NOT stuck. These are your wedding photos. How much was your deposit? If you are already feeling controlled, I would cancel- JMO but I can't stand that. How dare someone direct you as to what works best for YOU! Sorry, I just can't get my head around that.
Does she read LIW? Be cautious because that is how my former photog found out I was having second thoughts...and he called me telling me that he read about it on LIW.

Yes, you should also have traditional photos. If you only have photojournalistic pics then you won't have that many posed pictures that you can frame or put into albums.

Sorry, I don't agree with that attitude 'I don't take must-take photo lists.' YOU are hiring THEM and they work for you...if you have a must-take photo list, to make sure they get all the shots you want and are paying for, then too bad for them...I would meet with her and tell her (in a nice way) that you DO have a must-take photo list and that you expcect them to be taken...and go over the photo list with her as well. I don't think you should have to hire another photog because of what she said...Sorry, I just get mad when the vendors start telling the brides what to do....really not professional and kind of arrogant if you ask me

I did and I switched photographers because of this. Plus we felt she had no personality at all. She didn't want a list either. We loved her pj work, but after meeting, we changed her.

Perhaps she can hire a freelance photographer that is more traditional & can handle a must take list. I would run it by her. My cousin had a traditional photographer & a photojournalist. I don't see there being a problem if she is open to that. If she is not open to the idea.......than you may have a problem.

Hmmm I really think you should consider either having a second one or getting a new one. Because you want to be able to have the shots that YOU want taken! This is your day.
