I have had strep 3 times in 5 weeks, and the doctor tells me this is very unusual, but that it has been a particularly bad season. Just wondering if anyone else has had bad strep? I am thinking of having my tonsils out because of this. Just wondering...thanks.
Not this season, but 5 years ago I had it consistently for about a year and a half. It would go away when I went on antibiotics and come back as soon as I went off. I had my tonsils out and DO NOT recommend it. I think this surgery is considered simple and painless, but my doctor had warned me beforehand that the pain would be worse than childbirth. I didn't really believe him, but my god, if childbirth is that bad I'm adopting!!! I was in excutiating pain for over 2 weeks and couldn't open my mouth or even get water down! I did not eat or drink anything for well over a week and had to go to the hospital to get fed through an IV. I would wait and see if your strep goes away, because if I had to go through it again I never would've had the surgery!! Feel better!
Ugh. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow because my throat is killing me and I have a low grade temp. Did he put you on the Z pack?
I mean, I am not surprised that I am sick because I work in a residential school and they say your first year teaching you get sick A LOT. I had it first 5 weeks ago and they put me on the Z pack. That worked, but 2 weeks later I had strep again. I went again and they tried erythromycin. That worked half way, now, three weeks later, I had to go to the hospital because my throat swelled up so bad, so quickly. So now I am back on the Z-pack. What I don't like is that they don't do a throat culture. They just ASSUME it's strep. I had a throat culture two weeks ago that was positive for strep though, and I don't think it went away completely, so I think that's why they didn't bother doing one in the hospital last night. I don't know. We'll see what happens with this round of meds. But at least I'm not the only one who's had trouble battling it. The doctored made me REALLY nervous last night about having it so bad, and I can't get to my doctor till Thursday, and I will worry until then, I know myself!

I had one bout with it two months ago and it was BRUTAL! I hadn't had strep in literally 20 years and this was just awful. Working in schools will do it to you though! I guess I'll kiss my immune system buhbye for a couple of years till I adjust!
Get some rest everyone! I just called in sick to work for tomorrow, and my supervisor told me there is one other teacher in school who is going through the same thing as me....strep that hasn't gone away for weeks. I wonder if we have some weird, mutated form of strep. I mean, stranger things have happened!
One of the kids on my caseload has it and a bunch of others has been sick. I got a small cold on Thurs. night and last night DH got the cold. It stinks! Feel Better!!!!
I keep getting mixed suggestions from my doctors about getting them out. I just don't know what to do. Ever since I was 15 and had mono I get really bad strep and tonsilitis every winter. I'm just so frustrated. And the doctor in the hospital was just scaring the crap outta me.
My doctors also never wanted to take my tonsils out but after getting tonsillitis twice a month for 6 months in a row, and missing a ton of work I went to a new doctor and I was scheduled for surgery a few weeks later.
Yeah, I just switched my doctor today and will be seeing a new one Thursday, so we'll see what happens. I just think doctors are afraid to tell the truth these days. I've noticed that most of them don't weigh you anymore, either. I am angry with the whole health system! I miss NY insurance. My MA insurance BITES!
not sure if it is strep this time, but this is the third major sickness i've had this year!! i blame it on the stress of the job and this crazy weather!!
