the shot that is supposed to prevent HPV? I went to the gyno and she suggested all females under 25 get it. Im just nervous bc it's so new. and I only have my FH. Im not doing anything with anyone else that may cause HPV. What are your thoughts?

Re: has anyone heard of
my gyno also recommended it no matter how many partners you have had. Especially if you weren't FH first, men tend to spread it more so than women she said. HPV can also lay dormant for a really long time, then suddenly pop up out of nowhere. I am definitely going to get it, and I know a lot of people on here already have. I think its definitely worth it in the long run, you can never be too cautious these days!

I got it.. I still have 1 more round to go (it's 3 shots in a 6 month period). It's not bad at all... I suffered no side effects at all. Check out the website...Gardasil

i got it also - we were each other's firsts there are other (rare) ways to get HPV besides sexual contact and like 80% of women get it in their lifetime
basically any time you tell me a shot will reduce my cancer risk . . . i am going to get it.

Yeah my gyno suggested it to me also. I don't have medical insurance right now so I am unable to do it until I get it. It is suppose to be really good.

Re: has anyone heard of
i have heard that it's a great thing to get. it was approved in europe before it was approved here so i'm guessing its been used for years.
i find it a little odd that she would suggest it to someone getting married, but i guess these days you can't be too careful. (not saying anything bad about your FH!!) just sayin that might have been her thinking.
i might get it simply b/c anything that can help prevent cancer seems like something i should get with my family history.

I have insurance & w/ the co-pay for visit, co-pay for shot & co-pay for administering fee, it cost the same as it would if I didn't have insurance

Re: has anyone heard of
after 25 you can't get the shot. My gyno told me that its a no go for me last year when i tried to get it at 27. Both fh and i have had other people in our lives and we wished to have had that benefit of the shot since from what i have gathered it can lay dormant for a while but then again doctors controdict things always.
I pay for my gyno visit and all lab tests myself because i haven't had health insurance since i was 23 (5 years) its more important to do things even if they do cost (hopefully under $500 for the total shots) this way you have sound mind. But this is me.. i have had a friend die at 34 from cervical cancer because she skipped going to a gyno for four years due to no health insurance.

I hear its really good. I know that you can get it also from a certain type of yeast infection called bacterial Vaginosis if its left untreated. I think its a great shot to get. Im pregnant right now so I can't get it but after this little guy is out of me then I am deff going to get it.
