I went to a wedding last year where a friend of mine displayed a picture of her grandfather on the welcome table who had passed away and I think there was some sort of 'wish you were here' poem in a frame... has anyone else seen this? I would like to do something similar, but I don't want it to seem cheesy- has anyone seen this done tastefully?

Re: Has anyone honored relatives that are gone....
We lit a memorial candle before our ceremony started for my brother. We also put a pretty poem and in loving memory on the last page of our programs!

I would like to ask my church to say something in memory of my dad, and also to play a special song for him. I love the song 'There You'll Be' by Faith Hill. I'm not sure if they will do this though.

I think I might do a bouquet of flowers w/ a candle (& maybe a small picture) at the church for my cousin who just passed away. (Probably @ the altar). The flowers will be shades of lavender (her favorite color) to differentiate from the other flowers @ the wedding & to symbolize her.

You could also have a memory candle burning for the person.

Re: Has anyone honored relatives that are gone....
Thanks so far- those are all great ideas!
We are already doing music cds, but I was thinking we could also do a small donation to the cancer society in honor of my stepmom and grandfather- and then write it up on a pretty scroll or something for each person to see.
Still brainstorming! thanks

We are also making a donation in lieu of a favor to the American Liver Association in his memory as well.

I would like to honor my grandmother and FH's grandfather. Probably do a table. My response cards will have the choice to attend in body or spirit. There will be cards checked'in spirit' on the table and maybe a small speech with appropriate music during the reception.

Re: Has anyone honored relatives that are gone....
We are planning to do a 'moment of rememberance' during the ceremony for those ancestors who have passed. ...sort of inspired by the Native American and Japanese customs. I didn't want to name anyone specific, since there are quite a few recent deaths in the family and this way, people can think of who they want to.

you can do a dove release after the ceremony for them. Again you don't have to mention names

Re: Has anyone honored relatives that are gone....
I plan on dedicating part of the program to my father. I will also have displayed my parents wedding picture and FI parents wedding picture. My dad is the only one who has passed, but I think it would be a nice way of having all 4 parents recognized together.

Re: Has anyone honored relatives that are gone....
I wanted to put in in the program & lsit names, but FH thinks it is depressing, somaybewewillgowithoutnames. At my freind's wedding (it was a full Catholic Mass)they inlcuded the names of thedeceasedinthe prayerofthe faitful, which I thought was nice.
Our most recent relative who passed away is the father of the Best man& groomsman & husband of our reader, so FH doesn't want to upset anyone.

We're not having a religous ceremony. We are doing a moment of remembrance at the beginning of our ceremony.
We are also having a memory table with pictures of both our deceased fathers and also our grandparents wedding pictures. There will be a poem on the table as well.

One thng that I am doing is I wrote a poem of rememberence on a piece of paper and made it into a scroll. I am leaving a few on each table for my mom.
