I haven't made one but I have full confidence that it could be done, dont waste the money on etsy unless you want something with a ton of flare

I was going to attempt to make one but I figured, by the time I buy all the supplies, I'll probably spend around $20 and there are some cute ones on etsy for around that.

I've made some other types of wooden signs and its not hard. I would definitely recommend Michaels *be sure to bring your 40% coupons*. You can get them on their iPhone app. I would buy a wood sign, then you can print out whatever you want the sign to say, at scale. Lay the printed text on the wood with the text facing up toward you and trace the edges of the letters with a pencil. It will leave a slight indent in the wood that will a) help you trace the letters with paint and b) create a little 'dam' that will catch paint run-over and keep it from looking too sloppy.
Good luck!

You're welcome! I'd love to see pictures if you try it. I'm really into DIY projects for our wedding. I would do this project myself, but I already have a plan for our ring bearer (my nephew). We are starting a new tradition with a family bible. So he will be carrying that with our rings tied to it down the aisle. I'm going to have a calligrapher write down our wedding info in the bible and others in future generations can do the same.
If you look at my DIY album I have some wooden hearts in there on which I used the method I described in my original post. I think the lettering came out great, thought I did have to do a couple coats for the white to look sharp.

we made ours- used a wood piece that looked like it was cut out of a tree. went with our birds & Branches theme. we painted letters on with stencil... not so easy, but it came out OK! we got everything at michaels w/ 40-50% coupons. i think it might have cost $10-15

I made a Here comes the bride sign but for our FG who will be walking arm in arm with the ring bearer. I think it's def a do able project for any one to DIY.
I added a tulle bow and fake flower to the handle to dress it up a bit, the back says 'Just Married'

I have a die-cut machine which I used to cut the bracket shape, but if you have patience and a steady hand you can use a printed shape as a stencil to cut your cardstock. Or of course just make a square/rectangle one. Here's the steps:
Design in word processing whatever you would like it to say, make sure you make the lettering big enough. Print it on white or ivory medium weight cardstock and cut to desired shape. (I printed out one that said 'here comes the bride' and one that said 'just married')
Then cut out a piece of colored heavy duty card stock in the same shape only 1/2' bigger (1/4' on each side) so that some will show.
When layering and gluing together, glue a wooden stick between two of the layers. I used hot glue for attaching the stick and glue dots for the paper. (I ordered the wavy stick handle in bulk since I make other signs and are using for fan programs as well, but you should be able to find some sort of wooden stick at any crafts store)
Add a Bow and viola! I hope I explained it well enough if you have any questions just send me a FM I will be happy to help.
