If so, how did it work out? The shop promised that any loose threads, beads, would be restored. Generally, the dress is in great condition. Other than the idea of wanting a brand new dress, are there any reasons not to do it??
Thanks!!

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
I would do it if it fit well and was in good condition. Make sure it is clean and the loose thread and beads are fixed....free outside of the alteration costs.

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
I didn't purchase a sample dress but what i do know, is that they have to fix the dress to it's original state. That means any loose beads or damaged beads and if there is some kind of discoloration, anything like that. I bought a black dress from pzaz. It was full price but there was a section of damaged beading. They restored it to how it should look. Just make sure when you sign when you pick it up, that you look over it COMPLETELY before signing the form stating that it's ok.

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
My sister got one she fell in love with at a bergdorf Goodman sample sale. it had a couple of tears and some makeup stains on the inside of it. It was beautiful in the ned- you would have never known it was a sample! She had it professionally cleaned and then got it altered and any lil rips fixed up. I'd say go for it! it saves you a lot of money and they usually work out just fine!

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
Yes. I bought a dress sample from Vows in Boston. www.bridepower.com
I did it for two reasons. First, we didn't want a long engagement and I didn't want to have to wait 6 months to a year for my dress to come in. (This was what I was being told by some of the bridal shops). The dress I tried on at Vows was the dress that I got.
Also, by buying a sample, I was able to get a much nicer gown for my budget. I can't say that my dress was inexpensive, but I can say that I got a great dress for the money.
I did bring my sisters and mom with me for a second visit to check out the dress and make sure that it was in good shape. I had them pay special attention to the beading. I also chose one that only needed minor alterations to the hem and to the straps.
Vows sent the dress out and had it professionally cleaned before I picked it up and brought it to the seamstress.
Going the sample route worked for me.

I got my dress at a sample sale at Kleinfelds. As long as it's not in terrible condition, I'd encourage everyone at least to try them. You can get a great dress that would have been otherwise out of your price range .

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
I think that anytime you buy a sample dress, the results are like new. I was offered one of the dresses I tried on at a HUGE discount if I took the sample. I ultimately went with a different dress altogether, but I see nothing wrong with buying a sample, especially if it saves you some money. Just be sure that you are dealing with a reputable place and check into their alterations dept.

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
Like i said above I bought a sample dress bec I really wanted it and wasnt about to pay retail price for it so I got found a sample, in perfect condition and at a great price. Here is a pic but I got mine in ivory. There is def nothing wrong with a sample dress if its in perfect condition.
I purchased a sample dress from the Saks sample sale. Most of the gowns were in great condition and there was a huge selection. My gown is a Melissa Sweet which I purchased for 1/4 of the price. There are pics in my album. The only thing wrong with the dress is that the zipper needs to be reinforced at the bottom and it needs to be hemmed and taken in.

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
I purchased a melissa sweet dress that was a sample. It was cleaned and re-beaded and came out looking great. The only piece of advice I have is to have the store who sold you the dress make all of the alterations & clean it for you... I tried to save myself a couple hundred dollars by taking my dress elsewhere to be altered & I felt that less attention was placed on my dress in the details than would have been if I had purchased my dress from that shop.

WHOA nice find!!! What sample sale did you find this at? I was thinking of going to the POB one this weekend. Do you know what the averages prices are on dresses like this at a sample sale? TIA

I got mine at Vows too & I highly recommend. I paid $1500 for a gorgeous Melissa Sweet gown (see my pics). They do minor repairs & clean the dress as part of the price.

Re: Has anyone purchased a sample dress?
I went to the Saks sample sale today. It wasn't too crazy. Most of the dresses were ivory, and I wanted a white dress , so that ******. But, there were a lot of beautiful Ivory dresses. I tried on a gorgeous Kenneth Poole dress, and almost bought it, for 1400! But, I wasn't 100% sure and started to get anxiety over making the wrong decision, so I left. If you have a hard time making decisions, sample sales aren't for you, but if you have no problems or know exactly what you want, I'd say go for it!
