My FI and I are talking about hiring someone to put a 15ft extension on the front of the house next year. He says if we only get the shell done he can do the rest of the work and it could save us alot of $$$. Has anyone done or heard of this? If so, was it worth it? We wont need a basement, since the house doesnt have one anyway. I plan on getting a few different quotes but I was wondering if any of you had personal experience.

I dont know anyone who has doen this but my advice would simply be to look into what your taxes would be! Even a 15 foot extension can really raise your taxes! My FBIL decided against a 25 foot extension over his garage b/c his taxes would jump about $3000.

we are putting an extension on ours - it was cheaper than buying a larger house - the trick is to make sure you odn't go over the value of your house in loans = we were lucky in that what we paid oplus the extnesion, we still had equity in the house!
