Has this happened to anyone?

Has this happened to anyone?

I don't mean to sound like a spoiled brat or anything....but my mother is hillarious!

I just started registering for china and casual dinnerwear, crystal, etc....and she's BUYING practically everything off the registry and leaving nothing for anyone else! And she even tells me....'I want to get you the china, NO ONE ELSE!'

I've told her over and over and over again that it's not fair to his parents, or anyone else.

Now the latest thing...she wants me to register for sterling silver flatwear!

I think she's off her rocker

lol, you don't sound spoiled - actually FH's mother wanted to buy us the China too, so we didn't even put it on the registry... why dont you take it off the registry this way she doesn't need to rush around and go buying stuff...

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

I am happy, but I just feel like she's trying to 'out-do' his parents and everyone else...she's one of those mother's that shows you love through buying things.....I've told her how much I appreciate it, but that she doesn't have to buy these things to show me how much she loves me

Just be appreciative, I don't think there is a way to stop it, just enjoy it!!!

You know your Mom and if she's really doing it to outdo the groom's side, can you just come out and ask for a house? Joking naturally, but I don't see a problem with the china and even the crystal and silverware. Just register for what you like and make sure you register for all the accessories that match your set. You can also register for the everyday services, sets of pots, all the really good appliances - Kitchen Aid, Cuisinart - as well as your beddings, linens, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. She will run out of money and that will still leave plenty for you future in-laws.
You can also do this -so you don't get caught in the middle if your FMIL asks about buying your china, for example. Tell her all your items are registered for and bec. you don't want to spoil any surprises you are not checking back on it again. you don't have to volunteer that you know what your Mom is buying. Let her go and find for herself that someone bought these items. She'll find plenty of other beautiful things to choose from.

You are really very lucky, and I'm sure you aren't a brat for asking this question. Enjoy it!

Mom's are soo cute. They want to eat up every ounce of your attention during this time. Enjoy it and let her enjoy this special time!!! Just curious are you the first child to marry?

My mom is the same way with my silver flatware - she wants to buy it all.

Then FH, myself and mom went furniture shopping and she bought us our cocktail table, end tables and sofa tables!!! She is so awesome.

Mom's love to do stuff and its nice to look something whether it be China, Furniture or whatever and day Mom bought that for me - makes it so special!

My mom does that stuff all the time. The day before our e party (that she threw) she went and bought all the expensive stuff that was left on our registry.

My Mom did that too- She bought all my casual china and a feel horrible because I know that she really couldn't afford to buy all of it but she did.

I think that her free was that our pattern would get discountinued yet again.

My parents bought us our sterling silver flatware as an engagement gift and paid for the entire wedding amongst other things. At first I felt very guilty..I am not the type to ask for money..ever. I agree with the other girls that it makes them happy to give you things that they know you will cherish and enjoy and think of them every time you use them.

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

We didn't register for a lot of things to begin with since we have a lot already. (There was no need for flatware/dinnerware/cookware b/c my FH manufactures it and I already have my mom's crystal.)

I finally convinced my FH to let me register for china. Well, he ran into my mom at Fortunoff while she was buying our china. FH's mom bought us a bunch of things off the registry for Christmas too.

Needless to say, we had to find things to register for.
Not much you can do about it, except register for more and at other stores.

My mom on the other hand is buying things that we are registered for, at other stores.
Then she puts the stuff in a closet (like I don't know about it) and gets mad at me when I ask her to buy things off the registry so we don't get doubles. She then informs me that I am ungrateful! which I'm more than grateful for all that she has done! ahhhhhhhhhhh!

Re: Has this happened to anyone?

I don't think you are being spoiled or anything I think you are just like mom whoa slow down - there are X amount of other guests that are going to be lookin to buy us gifts too!

We were so afraid this would happen to so we didn't even tell our parents we registered until we were completely finished. Then we asked our parents not to go around telling people and wait until the shower invites came out so everyone had a fair share. But somehow things were missing from the registry (or so I was told - because I wasn't a peeker) way before the invites went out.

I know my mom was upset that my MIL bought all the china and crystal without consulting with her. She told my mom but did just that told her....being I am her daughter I (and my family - this is the way we do things) thought my mom she get first dibs! But I appreciate the generousity. My mom (who paid for my shower) went out and bought all my bedding (which was $$) and tons of other stuff - half the C&B stuff. My mom was in no way trying to outdo MIL (my family just isn't that way - we don't have a lot of money so we can't if we wanted to! ) she just is extremely generous and wanted to make sure her daughter got things she wanted.

Good luck. and enjoy your gifts!
