Have any of you bought an IPad (Apple) yet? reviews?

thinking of getting my mom an IPad for Mothers' Day...anyone bought one of these gadgets? like? dont like? thoughts?

The new 3G version is starting to get shipped out.

It's almost like a mini computer. You can do basic word processing, excel in it. You can remote into your computer with APPs, you can use it as a digital picture frame with the pictures in your iPad.

I think for someone who's always on the go and needs a laptop for basic computer purposes it is great. It's small, convenient, super portable.

One of the partners at my firm is looking to get it in lieu of a laptop because she wants it primarily for putting together spreadsheets, sending out emails, etc. And the plus is she can use it to play movies for her kids on long plane rides.

I believe it also has a e-reader function, probably through a App?

My principal is getting it because he'll end up using it as the 'computer' he brings with to display presentations etc. Again I think by way of remoting into our work desktops.

Would I get it? Probably not because in terms of a laptop I would need something with a lot more juice than the iPad can handle. But if your mom just wants it for emailing, browsing the web, play movies, basic computer word processing stuff it can be pretty neat!

P.S. If you know anyone in school Apple gives a pretty nice education discount!

BTW my SIL gadget queen of the universe got the non 3G version and LOVES it! But def recommends getting the 3G version.
