Did anyone promise less people to cover 'no shows' at the wedding? If so, how do you work this in terms of seating cards, favors, places at tables, payment, etc.

I don't think you really can b/c you have to give them your seating charts and that has the exact # of people you plan on having.

I've never heard of that, either. I'd be a little nervous about doing it. What if everyone shows up? I wouldn't want to deal with that on the day of.

NOT STEALING at all....we would pay for those couples that evening. We just want to cover those plates of the people who don't show up last minute. My friend had 8 couples not show for various reasons and he had to pay for them...that gets to be costly.
We can't figure a way to do this, so we will give a correct count. I just wanted to hear from other brides that have done this and how it works.

What you can do, is tell your hall that you will pay for your vendors that you are feeding, the day of. This way if there are no shows, that can pay for them. If you don't have no shows, then you just have to pay for your vendors

We didn't fudge the headcount, but there were some people we weren't sure about, so we didn't put them on the seating chart. We made sure that if they do come, there is enough room at that table and we will add them that night. Then if they do show up and other don't, we will hopefully break even.
We told the hall what we were doing and they were fine with it.

We are actually trying to figure this out right now, too. Our day of coordinator told us to tell them right over our minimum, and if more come we will pay for them that day. And, we made place cards for everyone. We will tell them that we are not sure of some out of town-ers, so please make a place setting for them, andwe will pay for them when they show up.
It is almost guaranteed that some people will not show up, and if you give them an exact head count, you pay for all those extra people. They places get enough of your $$$. As far as I see it, they are STEALING from you if they take $$ for people who are not showing up, so good for you for thinking of this ahead of time.

I have the same question- and think you guys have posted some good ideas- my remaining question is how to do it if your caterer not only asks for the no. of guests, but their names too... (Ours does). Thanks.

My hall lets me pay for everyone but 10 people, if they show up we will pay the rest that day. If they don't show we don't have to pay.

I was also told to do this... this way you are not paying for those people who so 'nicely' don't show up... I was also wondering how to get around it... but I think if you tell your hall you are unsure of some people showing up that would work out for everyone... it's def not stealing...it's just make sure you are not paying for a guest that is not at your wedding...

i think you just tell them, like 5 less than your planning on... if they all show up the hall will tell you that you have 5 extra people and to pay up

Re: Have any of you fudged the headcount?
I'm going to my hall this Saturday and I'm going to ask them about this. I like the 10 person rule. I think as long as you make your minimum it would be ubsurd for them to ask you to pay for people who didn't show. If my hall gives me any kind of issue, I'll just lie about the counts. They'll probably know that Im lieing and I'm not trying to pull one over on them, I just do see why I should pay for anyone that's not there.
