FH and I went upstate to FIL's house for the weekend. FFIL and FH's uncle were trying to convince me that at least one person goes missing in Aruba each month. (we plan on having our honeymoon there). They are the type of men that think they are right ALL the time.....has anyone heard of this being true??

Re: Have any of you heard of...
I've never heard of that before, but in light of what happened there recently, I would think twice!

I think you are smart enough not get into a car with strange men and not you go off alone!
People like that pray on drunk, young girls- not a girl with her new husband

I dont think it happens very often. but I will not go to Aruba, because I do not want to give that government any money b/c I do not think they are working very hard to help find Natalee

Re: Have any of you heard of...
I don't think that's true - the best thing to do is RESEARCH everything. I know it was stated that Aruba basically has one 'murder' a year - and that's pretty safe to me....there's also more to this whole MISSING ordeal.
I agree w/the posts above - as long as you're with the DH, you'll be fine - not out galavanting drunk by yourself at 18 years old...
Also, you risk this in ALL countries! No one said the world was SAFE! Just be careful no matter where you go!

What FH said in response to his father was 'well, tons of people get shot and mugged in NYC everyday...does that mean I shouldnt go to NYC anymore??' I think he has a point

I've never heard of such a thing, but if it's *just* one person that's nothing compared to the US.... I'm sure more than one person goes missing each week here! You have nothing to worry about, a friend of mine just came back from her honeymoon there and had an amazing time.

Re: Have any of you heard of...
A very good friend of mine went there for her honeymoon, and had no feeling of being unsafe or heard of anything happening to anyone while she was there.

Re: Have any of you heard of...
I have known 3 separate couples that have been to Aruba recently and not one of them complained of not feeling safe there.

baloney! Aruba is crime free - until this incident, which is clearly VERY isloated!

Absolutely. What happened to that poor girl was probably a result of her stupidity. She was hanging out with guys she did not know and you would not be doing that. Thousands of people go to aruba and nothing happens to them. I would be more concerned about a hurricane than being abducted.
