We are looking at some houses listed with Foxton's, but were quoted lower mortgage rates through other places. So far Suffolk Federal has quoted us the lowest, but it has gone up almost 1% since we first spoke to them a month and a half ago!

My parents just sold there home with foxtons. It went on the market late Feb (I believe) and they were in contract within the month to lock in the 2% for my parents they just closed on May 12th.

They as well as the buyer went through with there own lawyers.

Also make sure you get friendly with the owners, another couple lost out on my parents house because foxtons dropped the ball and never supplied the bid to my parents.

The couple that got my parents house did because they came back and gave there number to my folks and said if they didn't hear a bid by tomorrow at 8am to call them.

But all in all the house was in contract by March and closed in May.

Also another neighbor just sold there house with foxtons no problems either the house went into contract within a month so they also got charge only the 2% commission.

Most of the homes go real fast, because most sellers want to only pay 2% and most of the listings never even get to the MLs.

We bought our co-op through Foxtons. At first we were using them for our mortgage, but I had such a hard time with them. Information not being sent, calls not being made, etc. so I ended up switching to HSBC and everything went smoothly.

Besides my mortgage issue, everything was great!

i remember watching a fox 5 speical when foxton over stated sq foot space...

seem like a good company but i would make sure you check room # and sq feet (measure carefully)

they were off by like up to 500 feet. even 200 sq feet missing is a difference. this is a long time ago..i forgot how it ended (probally foxton never returned there calls)

I just sold my co-op through Foxtons. I would suggest using your own lawyer and getting your own mortgage. They are not dedicated to these issues so I don't think you will get the attention and knowledgeable staff that you might need. Foxtons in general, is a good concept but their service leaves much to be desired.
But I can tell you, I was getting ready when the contract ran out to use a Real Estate agent like Century 21, and the price would have been higher because I keep my asking price and they tag their commissions on to that. So yes, youa re the one paying more through a regular RE agent. I suggest newsday's classifieds, and www.craigslist.org
(or com??)

Good luck!!!

I heard that the reason their commission are so low is because basically the seller does all the work, not the agent. You have an open house... YOU are working the open house - no agent present.

I too have run into the same problems with their not so up to date website.

As far as financing.... since Foxtons themselves were about to file for bankruptcy (I don't know what came of it) I wouldn't do it.
