Have I insulted her?

Have I insulted her?

Before I had gone to look for dresses, my FMIL had asked if she could come along. I was sort of surprised that she asked, and I had wanted to go to at least one place with my mom alone because it's a mother daughter thing. She must have sensed that when I replied I wanted it to be a surprise. I really don't want to show everyone a pitcure of my dress before the wedding.

Now, everytime I ask her to come along she says no. Have I insulted her?

She's only got 2 boys, and I do want her to be included in the planning, even though they are not paying for the wedding, but I don't want to take anything away from my parents either.

I feel terrible that she thinks i didn't want her to come dress shopping with me.

Maybe she feels like she may have intruded on your plans so now she feels weird saying yes? I doubt she's insulted though. Maybe she just feels that she overstepped her bounds by asking to come in the first place.

I had a similar experience..I asked her to go with us when her daughters were in town...they kept changing plans and then she said no because I had to go another time to accomodate her...I told her that I really wanted her to go and I would be insulted if she didn't. So she came, I think she was feeling like SHE overstepped her bounds and she didn't want to make things difficult for me.

I suggest that you tell her the truth ..how you felt and that you really do want her to go, that you just wanted your mom to go first so you didn't hurt her feelings. She will understand.
