Have questions about the church....

Hi ladies,

So I am trying to rack my brain, coz I have heard so many different things about marrying at the Catholic Church...So here are some questions:

1. My FH was previously married, but not in church. It was performed on a chartered boat, with an officiant overseeing the ceremony. Do you think he can still get married in the Catholic Church?
2. How much are you paying the church to conduct the ceremony?
3. Has anyone found a lot of resistance to you using outside musicians? I have a dear friend who sings Soprano in many choirs and I had asked her a long time ago if she could sing at my wedding, so I am thinking of having her but want to see if most churches try to get you to use their own singers and musicians.

Well thanks in advance and I appreciate all the info you can give.

Also, if anyone has any info on St Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hempstead, I would greatly appreciate it...THANKS!!!

Re: Have questions about the church....

I think it varies a lot by the church. I'm not sure about the FH being previously married thing, that might depend on the church also... but as for the other things, I'm getting married at a church in Valley Stream, they allow outside musicians as long as you speak to the musical director (the organist at my church) ahead of time and set things up with him. Our fee for the church includes the organist, he may play in between readings or something but if he doesn't it's not like we're going to get any money back (nor would I expect to). Our fee is $425 but I've heard that it's higher at other churches, somewhere between that and $700 between church and organist. I suggest you just call your church and ask them what the deal is regarding outside musicians, the rectory might have all that info handy.

Im not sure about the marriage part, I think some are more strict then others on that so it will vary.

We paid I believe 550, this included the singer and organist. If we wanted outside music (singer/DJ) we still had to pay for the church singer and organist~dont know why but this is the requirement for the church we got married in. This may also vary from church to church. I believe some have restrictions on WHAT you actually play and choose from the outside musicians but not all.

Re: Have questions about the church....

He has to go to the church and have what is called a quick annulment done...It will take about 2 weeks and he will be able to get married in a church.....Just ask the priest and he will tell you the same thing...It should cost $50-.....

Re: Have questions about the church....

ok..I was married before...by a judge...and my church had me fill out a questionaire and send a check for $50 to the RVC diocese requesting the permission to get married in the catholic church. It made no sense being that the church didnt even recognize me as being married in the first place...but its what you have to do. but beware...when we had our first meeting with the priest...me, priest, and fh had a whole discussion about ma and my ex and all our relationships with him...they want to make sure that he wouldnt be an issue in our future...this may happen with you..but every church is different....just a heads up.

*and my fee is $425 for the church
