Have to make a toast at a work function

..to thank my predecessor (who is staying on as a volunteer).

I am really shy and want to make it short and sweet. Anyone have ideas as to what I can say?

Start with thanking everyone for being their (Something like: Hello, I would like to thank the staff, faculty, members of the board whatever) for being here today.

I would also like to thank Jane Doe my predecessor for her many contributions to the groups such as (2 things she worked on)

Jane Doe will be staying on as a volunteer and we are all really excited about her staying on board. She is truely a bright star in our sky.

How about something like:

I'd like to offer my heartfelt thanks to NAME for not only training me as I attempt to fill her shoes, but also for showing true dedication to COMPANY by staying on as a volunteer. I have no doubt that she will lend the same professionalism and poise (OR OTHER NICE ADJECTIVES) to her new role that we all have come to rely upon. Thank you, NAME. Cheers!
