Have to postpone engagement party- HELP

Ladies,
I already sent out invites to our engagement party, but my future father in law just passed away. He passed away the same week the invites were mailed. Obviously this is a hard time for my FH and we MUST postpone the party. We plan to reschedule it, but what should I do? Do I send out letters stating the new date for the party? Do I call people instead? I am not sure the best way to handle this. Also if I do send out a letter to all those invited how would I word it so it doesnt sound depressing? I am so stressed. Thanks for the help.

As for letting people know about the postponment - it would depend on when the party is and the number of guests. If you have enough time you could send out notes to everyone. If there's not too many people I would give them a quick call.

I completely agree with Christine, but want to add that it might be easier if you can delegate the postponing phone calls to a family member or close friend if you are too busy helping your future inlaws with the arrangements for your FFIL.

My sympathy to you, your FH and his family. What a sad and difficult time this must be for you!
