I found this from an old 2004 Board and thought it would be cool to put an updated version out there as I'm sure places change owners, redecorate etc..
'I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much
Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed. Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well. Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards..... '
So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
There are always going to be positive and negatives with every hall and I keep telling myself that I can't please everyone. I hope this is helpful for some brides because I know that I personally like to hear the good and the bad (as long as there is support on why its bad!).
Chateau Briand - Went to a wedding here in November of 08. I thought the place was beautiful. I liked the idea of the bride and groom coming out of the floor but I didn't like that there was sooo much smoke that I could barely see them! But that could have been the DJ's fault. But something to keep in mind... The Viennese hour was INCREDIBLE!!!! It was over the top. We thought our food was good during both the cocktail hour and the reception. One thing I didn't like and that I am going to speak with my hall about is they didn't open the bar (in the reception room) until after introductions. This was annoying bec a lot of us wanted drinks! We had to wait like 30 minutes to get a drink. But I thought overall it was a very nice wedding.
El Caribe - Went to 3 weddings here recently, June 07, Oct. 07, and Feb. 08. SOOOOO much food! Everything was delicous. When we went to look for a hall, we actually wanted to have a wedding similar in style with a lot of food to choose from. I love that the menu was very big. The big ballroom is so beautiful with all the lights in the ceiling. Other room is just a plain banquet room. For large weddings, the ambience in the large room is spectacular.
Coral House - Wedding was in Aug. of 08. Grounds are beautiful and the room was beautiful (it was the big one). The cocktail hour was outside and very pretty. Just didn't like that some of the food was out in the open because there were bugs around. I didn't care for the food personally - I had the steak and it really wasn't tender. That just could have been my steak though because my friends enjoyed their other entrees. Service was really great and def. noticed that they really try to go out of their way for guests. Tips go a long way!

yes I have
What didn't you like about the food? I hear a lot of mixed reviews about them.
I feel with JT it is either a hit or a miss. My sister went to a baptism about two mths ago and she said the food was good.
I went for a wedding and I felt the main dinner was bad, the Ch was ok, nothing to rave about.
I agree that they with you they do have so many mixed reviews, but when you think about it most halls have this bc they are cooking for so many people.

Smithtown Landing Country Club - The room they had the CH was small and they barely had any food (although that may have been their choice?). The reception room was very pretty, but it was packed out and we sat behind a wide pillar and couldn't see anything the whole night! The food was blah (FH's steak was dry, my salmon was OK), and their was some mold on my strawberry (the appetizer thing that is on the table when you walk in the room).
Woodbury Country Club - The ceremony was really pretty (the gazebo spot). The CH room and food were ehhh, OK. I was upset they didn't have some outside aspect to it since it was 1:00 on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon! The RH was very nice. The dinner was mediocre - my shrimp was overcooked/rubbery and FH's steak was bland and over cooked. The dessert (ice cream ball with choc sauce) was soo good!
Land's End - I love this place. My brother got married here in fall of '07 and we went to this past NYE there (and I think we'll go back this NYE too!). CH was sooooo good, amazing! The food was to die for, the room is beautiful, and they have waitstaff lined up with cosmos and apple martinis on trays when you walk in. All the food from the reception was pure perfection. I would kill for the lobster and shrimp crepe I had that night and the lobster tail and fillet minion on NYE was upscale steakhouse worthy. The place itself is stunning, right down to the bathrooms!
Brentwood Country Club - They got married there and no joke, you could here the golf carts whiz by while the ceremony was going on. The food was good, CH being the better of the dining experience. One thing I must say about this place: Our waitress was so nice and attentive! Our drinks were never empty, our plates were always cleared promptly. This left a very favorable opinion of this place to me and FH.
Tavern on the Green - Honestly, IMPO - I thought the decor was a bit tacky/gaudy (sorry if that offends anyone!). The food was good, but nothing to write home about. My friend I brought still raves about the shrimp cocktail.
Coral House - This was 10 years ago-- Nothing sticks out to me, nothing 'wow'ed me. The room was pretty and they got married there by the lake, which was pretty too. I was in the bridal party and the bridal suit was nice and roomy (from what I can recall!)
Lombardi's on the Sound - I went to a bridal shower here. It was very pretty, but there was another shower going on in the room next door and they had Indian music BLASTING the WHOLE time, like strait-up Bollywood style. The food was good, the champagne and berries tasted soooooo watered down!
Harbor Club of Huntington - I went there for a work function. It was nice, the food was good. Not much to say here.
East Wind - I went to my nursing school graduation formal here. It is so beautiful! The food was good.
Chateau Briand - I went to a sweet sixteen here like 11 years ago... I just remember being like - 'Wow, this is the nicest thing I've ever been to!' LOL

Anyone been to the Carltun lately?
I worked a party there about 2 months ago and everything looked great. It was hard to see the decor of the actual room cuz they draped it in white fabric and did uplighting all around, had a white dancefloor and the white vip lounge seating.
What I did like about it was the cocktail hour room. It was beautiful.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Riveria (in Long Island) - cocktail hour was outside and it was beautiful. Food was really good. The room was big enough for 150 people but would probably be too small for anything over that. It was a beautiful night.
Rivieria (in Brooklyn) - there was a ridiculous amount of food. The presentation of the entrees was incredible - the waiters came out with flaming food and it was really unbelievable. The vienneese hour was also amazing. The decor was beautiful. The bridal suite was pretty big and everybody seemed very attentive.
The other weddings we have been to were out of State.

Thatched Cottage - yesterday went to a brunch wedding there - it was very nice - the ceremony was outside on the water in a gazebo (underside - it was HOT HOT HOT and the guests were completely in the sun) it was a brunch buffet which was ok - the food was good - the only alcohol was mimosa or bloody mary which was different.... the place is beautiful - the wedding was short only abt 3 hrs total.... overall B+ (loved the ambiance, food good, brunch ok - didnt like the no drink and only 3hrs)
