Has anyone here thought about adoption? If so, what are your thoughts. DH and I have talked a lot about it, and are considering it as an option when we start having kids. Also, any knowledge of adopting out of the country?

Re: Have you considered adoption?
Michele31 might be able to help you. We have friends that just returned from China with a beautiful little girl that they adopted. Michele has been very close to the couple as they went through the adoption process.

We have talked about it. I am very big on the adoption thing since both of my parents passed when I was a teenager and my brother was young. Also my MIL was adopted. We want to a adopt a baby girl from China after we have our own kids. Atleast that is our plans.

Re: Have you considered adoption?
my dad's cousin adopted a baby from Russia. I thought it was the most wonderful thing. Another cousin went with her to Russia and filmed everything. She is going to make a documentary to show the little girl when she is older.
I think if we couldnt have children I would definatly go the adoption route and would most likely do what she did.
For my dad's cousin it took about a year to get the baby. Russia has rules about adoption. When the child is born the parents have 30 days after putting up the baby for adoption if they want to take the baby back. After the 30 days, only Russians can adopt the child for up to one year. After a year, then the baby is up for adoption to anyone.
The background check was a long process as well. They had to check her bank records, her job status, how long she has been at her job, how long has she owned her house, any debts, warrants, etc...
Pictures were then sent to her of different children. She wanted a girl, so she saw a pic and said who she wanted. After a few months she was then told she could go to Russia for a week and see the baby. She would only be allowed like 15 minutes with the little girl. Just to see how she interacts with the girl.
Then a month later, all the paperwork was filed, and legal matters handled she went to Russia and was able to come home with her daughter. She legally changed her name, filled out all the necessary forms and now she has a beautiful 2 year old daughter

I really want to adopt ..... we discuss it. Fh said he is into it but also wants 'natural children' which scares me a little, will he love the adopted child the same? He wouldnt be doing it to mean but rather just as a natural instinct, would it be a problem for us? I dont know.

Re: Have you considered adoption?
My parents adopted 3 children when I was 16. I really support it.
I had a brush with cervical cancer when I was 20. The surgery to remove the damaged area may have effected my chances at getting pregnant. I have thought of adoption. I think it's a wonderful idea.

Here is my friend's beautiful, perfect new daughter Caroline.
FM me if you want me to put you in touch with them. They would be happy to share their information with you. I can tell you that they had a wonderful experience throughout the whole process. I know that which agency you chose makes a big difference. I think when you adopt from Russia you need to go over there twice. China is a one time trip. Scott and I would not think twice about adopting a child from China. In fact, we may do it in a few years anyway.

Re: Have you considered adoption?
Yes my dad's cousin went to Russia twice.
First time was to interact with the baby, but she was only allowed 15 minutes to be with her
absolutely....I spent some time in China a few years ago and really fell in love with in and the people...also it kills me to think of all the girls in the orphanages in China b/c of the one child policy and the desire to have a son.
my cousins adopted from South America and they are great kids

We have thought about it too. I think it is a wonderful thing to dao.
A co-worker of mine, his sister adopted 2 boys from Russia. They are so cute. I think he said it cost her about 30,000 per child plus traveling expenses. I think it is so worth the cost

Re: Have you considered adoption?
I think adoption is a very selfless, loving and beautiful act! What can be more admirable than taking a child that nobody wants and loves and giving him a home and a loving family! I know that there are so many women straggling with infertility, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and devastating themselves and their husband! I think if it were to happen to me I would want to adapd! But it’s really hard to say how you will react in a situation unless you are actually in that situation, right! (With that said, I still really hope I can have my own children!)
However, in my case I am much more afraid of being pregnant than giving birth! Labor is just a day, or even less than that, pregnancy is 9 month of naousia, swollen ankles and puffy face, weakness, not being able to wear nice close or shoes, and generally not looking very attractive from most angles! (Except for a few lucky woman who manage to look great! how do they do it? I don't know!) May be we should ask Jenny 11.9
i know I am going to look awful when my time comes! My butt will expand to size 22 I just know it!
