That you didn't really want to spend a lot of money on because you didn't think the relationship would last?

Re: Have you ever been in a wedding
No, but I do know someone who did. And she asked me if she should buy them a 50$ gift off the registry instead of giving a monetary gift of 100.00. I dont know what she did, but that was the conversation...

Re: Have you ever been in a wedding
not exactly that. i've been to one where the bride (who used to be a good friend of mine and fh's) changed into a real pretentious know it all. she owed all of her friends large amounts of money, had screwed them over in many different ways, and just started being a real b!tch. she came first, you know. we ended up getting her an inexpensive gift and i felt awful about it but i honestly couldn't afford much else and she treated us like dirt. i wouldn't have gone but i already rsvp'ed yes.
in the end i'm glad we did that though because she really shafted us all at the wedding.

NO! But I wish I did and she was my own family! It was an OOT wedding to add to the toture and we paid for OOT responsibilites and gifted as if we were attending a usual NY wedding, which it was not.

I have never been in that position- luckily. If I had though, I would never give less because of MY opinion- because even if they seem likely to screw it up- you never know. And then if you invite them to your wedding- they'll be cheap right back lol

I meant in terms of paying for things to be in the wedding, not so much the gift.

Yup but in the end she was marrying him not me and I felt like if I supported her no matter what that was all that mattered.

Re: Have you ever been in a wedding
DH was asked to be his friend's best man, and DH declined, saying very nicely that the groom-to-be had 3 brothers, he just felt uncomfortable being BM, when they'd surely want the honor. Of course, that was not the case! The groom's brothers also had no desire to be part of the wedding, or even attend, yet they eventually made up the male side of the BP. The couple in question was married in Sept 06, and filed for divorce in Jan 07!!! The divorce is still in court, it's a real dirty, nasty divorce. We attended as guests, but I'm so glad DH declined being in the BP.

How could you have a nasty divorce after only a few months? That's just plain sad...

Re: Have you ever been in a wedding
I have said no to being in a BP when Ididn't believe in the relationship, twice. One of the weddings I said no to being an attendant in was cancelled, the other has been messy for the last 5 of 10 years.
It is ok to say no.
