Have you ever heard........

Does anyone have any feedback on Photos of the Heart photography? I've heard that they take wonderful photos, but can be a little pain in the neck also? Any comments

Re: Have you ever heard........

I saw their photos at my reception hall. They are the house photographers for The Hamlet. I was not impressed. They looked very cookie-cutter. But I didn't see all of their work, or ever met with them.

Re: Have you ever heard........

I booked the same hall as Michele and met with them becuase I really liked the album that the Hamlet had on display. They were very nice and took a lot of time to speak with me and show me their work.

However, Michele is right, they are cookie-cutter. All of their albums looked the same. I was also very put off becuause they were the first photographers I met with and they WOULD NOT let me leave with a price list. Gave me some excuse about not wanting their 'competition' to see it, as if I was some sort of spy! The other photographers I met with gave me their price lists. I thought that was strange.

Re: Have you ever heard........

If they will not disclose their prices openly- beware. That is insane. Mark Kauffman sent me his prices in the mail. All the photograhers I met with (about 5-6) gave me printed prices.
If they are worried about their competition, then you have to worry about them.

Re: Have you ever heard........

I totally agree, Michele. He showed me the prices, just wouldn't let me leave with a copy. Even though that was the first photographer I looked at, I knew something was not right, becuase Mark Kaufman had already sent me his price list and I hadn't even met with him yet.

Re: Have you ever heard........

I would really wonder why they don't give out any price lists. What's there to hide? I'm sure this would only be the beginning of a nightmare!!!!!!!

Re: Have you ever heard........

Actually, I booked with Photos of the Heart and I love them. I am surprised with the price list comments because they let us take one with us before we booked with them. I also don't think their pictures are cookie-cutter. Their were some very interesting ones as well as pictures that won awards.

They take alot of pride in their work and it means alot to them. I have heard nothing but good about them from other people who have used them.

The photographer who my SIL used is the president a photoographers association in NY and knows their work well. She also said that they are very good.

Re: Have you ever heard........

I have to agree with zac1228. I also booked Photos of the Heart and was able to leave with a price list. If you're really interested, their prices on some of their popular packages are on their website (I think they might be a little outdated - but you'll at least get a range). I found the owners to be awesome - my FI and I were there for almost 3 hours with all of my questions, and they let us go through about 30 different albums to get a feel for their different styles. I have heard nothing but awesome things about them prior to this.

Good luck!!

Re: Have you ever heard........LONG

My best friend used Photos of the Heart. Their photography is not my style, however it was her's and she loves her album/pictures. The shots are very traditional and posed, but that is what she wanted. I will say according to my friend, they are very dedicated to their business (they are a husband and wife team) and were extremely pleasant to deal with before and after the wedding day...the actual wedding day is a different story!

I was in the bridal party so I can tell you first hand that they were very pushy. I actually thought that the groom was going to go off at one point! We literally spent the whole cocktail hour taking pictures! I also know that they were pulled aside during their wedding reception for picture taking as well. If you like the more traditional photographs, then go for it. Just make sure that you are very specific about when you want to take your pictures. They have a good reputation, and besides them being 'stern,' my friend was thrilled with them!

Re: Have you ever heard........LONG

If you don't mind them ruining your party...their phots are all good. My friend used them and she said it takes the wife three-five minutes to take one picture. They always seem to want just one one. Then when you pick up the proofs they nickel & dime you to death

Re: Have you ever heard........LONG

I'm sorry. Everyone's intitled to their own opinions and everyone likes different types of photos. But firsttimer, you started this claiming you knew nothing about Photos of the Heart and were asking for input. Then, you continued to respond to your own post with nothing but negative comments. That seems a little strange to me.

I am using Photos of the Heart and I love them. I like the type of pictures they take and I also like both the husband and wife. I think they make a great team. The comment about them not letting you take the price list seems wrong, because not only did they let me take the price list, but their prices on their most popular packages are posted right on their website. The only thing they ask for more money for when you pick up your proofs is if you want more picture in the album, which everyone that has used Photos of the Heart usually does. Their picture are so good, that people wind up having an album of 200 pictures as opposed to the 50-100 that they usually put in.

Also, I don't know if you've ever been in a wedding, but I've been in plenty and I know alot of people who have already been married and the consensus I've gotten from everyone is that no matter who you use, your photographer is going to start getting on your nerves with the pictures. But this is the thing... it's their JOB to take alot of pictures. The importatnt thing is that you feel comfortable enough with your photographer to tell them to stop, that you want to enjoy the rest of the party. And I feel that way about Photos of the Heart and so does everyone else I've talked to that used them. The only negative things I've heard about them are from this post and mostly from you.

But like I said, everyone is intitled to their own opinion.

Re: Have you ever heard........LONG

zac1228...

I agree with you that it is the Photographers job to take pictures. However, I certainly do not believe that it's acceptable for any Photographer to 'get on the nerves' of the bride and groom. They are paid to take pictures while trying to keep the day as stress free as possible, and without ruining the day of the people who are paying them! I for one know that I would never hire somoeone who I felt could not work under pressure!

Just my opinion!

Re: Have you ever heard........LONG

zac1228,

I liked their pictures, too. That is why I met with them in the first place. In February (give or take a month) when I met with them, they had sample prices on their website, maybe three. When I went in there was a grid that I was shown with many more package options and prices. I specifically asked if I could have a copy of the price sheet and I was told that they do not give out that grid becuase they do not want their competition to know what they are charging. I decided that they were not for me, in part because I was turned off by the refusal to give me a price list. If they have changed that business practice then I say good for them. I can't speak to what they do NOW, becuase I saw them several months ago. But back in February, they would not let me have a copy of their prices.

I see that you are getting married at the Hamlet. Me too That is why I went to see them, I really liked the album they had on display. I am sure that your album will be beautiful and if you are happy with them, then that is really all that matters.
