HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

We have a delima, we are running out of money. So our next thing on the list is photos. I'm trying to cut corners every where. I have found a photographer that the package that I would want is $1800.00. (and I know that that is cheap compared to what others are paying)So I was thinking, what if we get the smallest package, buy the negatives, we'll buy really nice albums and i'll put the albums together. I figured out that with the development of all the pictures and albums, it will save us around $600. What do you girls think????

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

Its up to you. We booked with our photographer to receive a wedding album for us and 2 for the parents however my parents are both divorced and remarried. I am not so close with my father but want to keep him included. We couldn't afford to pay for an extra album so I will be putting one together for him.

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I don't think it's unusual to make your own photo album. There are a lot of beautiful albums at stores - I would just make sure the the albums are of high quality (archival, acid-free, etc.) and I would be very careful to find a quality photolab to make your prints on good paper so that the prints will last a long time and not start to fade or yellow within short time.

Have you checked VIP Studio's they have a basic package around $1,800 that includes albums and parent albums?

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I would much rather pay more $$$ to get a large number of high quality photos and make an album later...
You can't duplicate memories sweetie!

if you can get both, then even better.. =)

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

This is absolutely the most important thing you will book. The photos are the last thing you will have to remember this day, and while you can make your own albums, they will not have the archival quality that a bound photo album will have. I'm sure you can spend a lot of money on archive books, and supplies, but if you are going to spend it on that, spend it on the album your photographer will make you.

You may be able to book a photographer and have them and give you the photos and negatives, and have them make the album at a later date. Also, photographers don't expect the balance until after the wedding when they give you the proofs...that may help you a bit.

Just think about the options, and talk with your photographer about it also.

I would also probably take just the photos and negatives for now. After the wedding you can always add on the album's and all other extras.

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I got 3 albums and all the proofs but I am making some of my own albums to house the proofs that we received. Check out the following link: http://www.creativememories.com They are a scrapbooking company and they offer great products. I just bought the promise album and the wedding bouquet kit. Theyre not a retailer - you have to buy from a licensed seller by contacting them online.

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I think skipping the albums is a good way to save money BUT I would not handle the photo development myself. Its one thing not to have an expensive leather bound book but its quite another to have to find a quality developer (you want professional quality) and worry about that aspect. So just get the proofs and the negatives.

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I intend to do my own album. Both FH's and my parents have requested 8x10s only. They feel a wedding album is a waste. Which is fine with us! If they like other photos, then we'll just have them developed!

My only concerns are the proofs & negatives. I'll take it from there. (But...my FH has people that can develop pics for us and I'll be able to do B&W once I get my equipment to our house.)

One of my favorite places for albums:
Exposures Online

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I don't know this for sure - but look into photo preservation. If you do it yourself, your photos may be yellowed at your 50th anniversary - and won't be around for your children and grandchildren. It may be worth it to have them make up a small one (like 25 photos) and then make a large one yourself. I would hate for you to open the album in 20 years and see them deteriorated. They probably have books in the library abour preservation. Good Luck!

Re: HAve you ever heard of making your own photo albums?

I spent $1500 before my wedding on what I would call high quality photos (cost of time of 2 photographers, a few enlargements, and over 500 proofs). I got married in June but we decided to take our time with the album and are just meeting with the photograher to put it together next week. It's worth it to me, since I don't have the patience or creative talent to put it together. It will probably cost us $600-$700 more. I know it's not for everyone to spend money after her wedding, but it works for me.
We are only giving our parents 8X10, neither of them care if they don't get an album.
